PanAust discovers high grade gold at Tharkhek prospect in Laos
PanAust (ASX: PNA) has discovered a continuous zone of high-grade gold skarn mineralisation at the Tharkhek gold prospect, which is in close proximity to the Tharkhek copper-gold deposit near Phonsavan, Laos.
The first four discovery holes at the prospect have all intersected high-grade gold mineralisation over significant widths including 22 metres at 12.78g/t gold from 141 metres (TKRD015) and 17 metres at 10.96g/t gold from 135 metres (TKR035):
The high-grade gold mineralisation has been intersected over an area of approximately 100 x 100 metres and has an estimated true thickness of between 15 metres and 20 metres. The mineralisation remains open to the east and west.
Gary Stafford, managing director, said "Tharkhek is emerging as an exciting discovery with the prospect of a discrete high-grade gold deposit being defined in close proximity to a copper-gold deposit thereby increasing the prospects for separate gold and copper-gold production streams to be developed in the Phonsavan Region.”
Drilling activity at the Tharkhek gold prospect will be suspended through the current wet season while results are collated and interpretive work is completed.
The company said the relationship between the discrete gold and copper-gold occurrences at Tharkhek is not fully understood but is thought to be analogous to the Fortitude gold and Copper Canyon deposits in Nevada. Drilling is planned to recommence in November this year.
The nearby Tharkhek copper-gold deposit is part of the Phonsavan Copper Project, which comprises two deposits which are named KTL and Tharkhek. These are located 5km apart and close to the town of Phonsavan and existing road and power infrastructure.
Bohr Thong Prospect, also located nearby, is an additional regional exploration target.
A two-year resource development program, which will be completed in several phases, is currently underway at the KTL and Tharkhek copper-gold deposits.
Drilling at KTL has confirmed a continuous zone of copper-gold mineralisation over a strike length of 1.6km. The zone of mineralisation, which dips moderately to the south at between 30deg and 40deg, remains open to the east.
New and significant drill assay results at Tharkhek have identified significant base metal and gold mineralisation intercepts of 20 metres at 1.35% copper, 0.11g/t gold and 2.2g/t silver from a down hole depth of 42 metres at hole TKD024.
PanAust is planning to complete an initial resource estimate for the Phonsavan Copper Project for release in the March quarter 2011.

The more gold and copper that the Austrian found that is better but the question is , do the Lao people and kids see and have any benefit of the gold and copper ? Perhaps the Lao kids are lucky and they might find the fith element in Laos. Or if you find the way to turn lead into gold by taking 3 protons and 8 neutrons out from the lead then you turn lead to gold. Or if you could find the way to make fire from water (H2O) .the water molecus make of hydrogen and oxygen. Oxygen burn and Hydrogen also could turn to Helium just like the power of the sun.(H2O) solid is ice , liquid is water , gas is water vapor and then plasma Hydrogen turn to Helium. Then you could make Laos rich.

Yes,when your kid and my kid grow up , nothing left for them. my worry is how many Lao specialists are working along with the Australian?i think they give the govt a fake report about the capacity of gold and copper and the govt believe or just close the eyes. Laos just can't rely on the Mining industry to rise the GDP. please forgive me if my opinion is not reasonable enough.

Every things will be running out such as the trees (wood) , rian forest, copper and gold but the government should invest more on Lao kids and turn them to be well educated and skill people. Brain and mind , scientists and economists .
making an appropriate agreement between Lao government and the Pan Austrilia : the gold belongs to the lao pdr, the extraction of the gold and the environment conservation task force are the responsibilities of the pan aust. the outcome of the exploitation must be divided into two parts, one belongs to the lao pdr and the other belongs to the Panaust... Fair ? if they don't agree, let them go to find other ressourses in other countries ... the lao government should not make any agreement with the counter part without consulting the National Assembly. It is the Lao PDR asset, it do not belong to a fullhand of people in the lao governing people who only think for themselve and their relatives to take such an important decision but the National Assembly.

back
Us $450 million recieved from Sepon. i hope if they start to dig in thakhek, the tax we must ask more and more!!
I never like working for this kindda Corporation, here why, this kinnda Firm only interested of making money. they are not interesting hiring and empowering the Employee for a long term. like XeponMine for example. they sold it to Chinese Firm now and looking some places else. Can you see what the HONDA and TOYOTA did for Thailand?? they're investing and empowering their employee as well as rewarded for the best performances. they also investing in the local communities by gave out school supplied for kids. so what was the Australian Mining company do for our lao community beside paying taxes for PDR government ??? None zero ??
