Kai means chicken in Lao language.

Why some Laotian or Thai perants name their kid Kai ( chicken ) when they are not chicken.
This is my answer for the one who's wondering about none Lao name for Laotians like Tommy C.

In christian custom the priest should baptize and give christian a name to all the new born in christian families , for males as Joseph, Peter, Richard, John, Paul, Dominic, Roger , Mark and so on. and for female as Mary, Madelein, Agnes, Alice, Clara, Jean, Barbara and so on...and you have to understand that almost those names have a long story : are related to jewish names because those were the Christ's apostles names...: Saint Peter, Saint Paul, Saint Agatha, Saint Mary...
