This is very dump and stupid comparision, if i compare these developing countries to Laos, who has the greenest country in the region ? and none of these countries can beat my birthplace'' Laos'' and Laos do not have a Slumdog like these cities either. and why don't you compare these cities to my well developed town New York city.

Laos no need such a high building because we have planty of land and less population we should happy of what we have why do we need to compare with them???? we have fresh air not like crowded and polluted in some of those countries. We should be pround of the way we are LAO...

Well if you wanted to see high buildings then Hongkong is the place, there was a BBC program called Cities of the world on Australian ABC tv last night, the reporter said that there are some 7350 high buildings in Hongkong. I believe Lao still has plenty of land why think about tall buildings, and for what? Just working on how to improve and reduce poverty of the people, with decent housing that would be good enough for Lao.

Lao people should hope that their neighbors build more mega-cities with steels, concrete and glass because these type of structures requires tremendous amount of energy to run the air con when the temperature rises above 30 degrees. Where do they get electricity from? From the dams that are being built in Laos. This type of urban planning is so backward.

I read all the comments about this question. Most people are blaming Vientiane the capital of Laos. I visited almost the capital of South East Asia countries, but Indonesia capital just stop by only 3 hours during my trip to Newzeeland.
Non of any capital of SEA can't beat Vientiane, the capital of Laos. Vientiane is very small city if compare to them but, all the tourists said that they feel safe when they visite Vientiane more than any capital of SEA. I saw many crimes like murdering, raping, robering every hour in big city but, not in Vientiane.

I agree and not just that in Lao as a whole people are so nice and generous! you can get free meals, free drinks and even free place to stay i you get with the local try to do that in big city...

Thats why I always stand up and defend when people bad mouth my birth place. I live the US for almost 30yrs....and I travel to many big cities I do not care for Lao to be like them...at all. we can use some improvements but not sky scrapers.
