Thai Government provides fund for streetlights for Laos

IMG_4734-fff.jpg(KPL) The Government of Thailand has provided more than 21 million baht to Lao Government for purchasing streetlights for the installation on a 11.9-km stretch from the Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge to Chinaimo intersection in Vientiane Capital.

The handover ceremony was held at the Done Chan Palace Hotel in Vientiane Capital on 15 September.

The fund was handed over by Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya to Vientiane Mayor Mr. Sombath Yialiheu in the presence of Vice Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith who is also Minister of Foreign Affairs and high-ranking officials of both sides.

The aid is also part of the upcoming celebration of the 450th anniversary of Vientiane proclamation as the capital and to mark the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic relation between Laos and Thailand.

Mayor Sombath has expressed thanks to the Thai government for the donations.

I believe Lao Government was asked to use free aid to purchase streetlights and installations from Thai manufacturers.  This is mutual benefit, good for Laos and good for Thai manufacturers.

There are dozens of Thai manufacturers of streetlight and installation with varieties of design from single bracket, double bracket, high mast and artistic or decorative streetlights.

I strongly recommend Lao Government to install artistic or decorative streetlights at all tourist attractions.  The beauty of design is unique to Thai-Lao culture.

Laos need Thailand and Thailand need Laos. 21 million Lao people live in Thailand, but only 5 million in Laos. Border trade between the two neighbor react $2.6 billion. Japan, Thai help fund all the friendship bridge in Mekong River. China is the largest investor in Laos follow by Thailand and Vietnam.
