(KPL) Seventy films will be screened during the 2nd Vientianale International Film Festival at the National Cultural Hall on May 12-15 from 12:30 PM to10:30 PM.
Director General of the Cinema Department, Ministry of Information and Culture, Mr. Bounchao Phichit, told a press conference held on Wednesday that film industry played a key role in every country, mainly in term of promoting the traditions, culture and ways of life of people in those countries.
The film festival is aimed at promoting the Lao films portraying the Lao traditions and culture and those of countries in Southeast Asia and Europe.
The films to be screened are divided into two categories-one for short films and the second one for long films.
The Vientianale Film Festival was launched in 2009, featuring more than 20 locally-produced short films and a selection of international productions. This year, the festival will feature more than 80 shorts, documentaries, children�s films, animated film and full-length features and award three prizes: Open Entry, Short Film and Rising Star.
Besides to the film showing, there will be a concert featuring many rock singers including Aluna on Saturday, May 14.
The event is supported by the European Union, Embassy of German in Laos, Embassy of the United States of America, Goethe Institute, Banque Franco-Lao Ltd, Embassy of Switzerland, Singapore, Myanmar, Cambodia, Australian, France Institute, DVV International, Beer Lao, DAAD, PADETC, and Lao Telecom.
