(KPL) Twenty point four per cent of population in the Lao PDR reportedly lives under poverty line, according to Vice-President of National Steering Committee on Rural Development and Poverty Reduction.

Mr. Savang Sihavong, whose post was mentioned above, said last Friday that the percentage of poverty households has reduced from 27.7 per cent in 2003 to 20.4 per cent this year. Between 2005 and 2010, the government spent 124 billion kip on implementing 491 poverty reduction projects in villages and development village clusters nationwide.

During the period, the Poverty Reduction Fund operated in 19,000 villages in 21 districts of seven provinces with a fund of 203 billion kip. The main objective of the PRF is to improve communication infrastructure, health and educational facilities and vocational training. Over fifty journalists have participated in a seminar on media coverage of issues related to poverty reduction.

The seminar was held by the Lao Press in Foreign Languages, Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism. Lecturing at the seminar was Vice-President of the National Steering Committee on Rural Development and Poverty Reduction, Mr. Savang Sihavong.

The seminar is aimed at making sure the journalists understand the policy of the Party and government on poverty reduction for the Lao people, according to Mr. Savang.

Laos is the rich country but the Lao people are still living in poverty and the least developed and the poorest country and about 80% are low educated and very few skill workers. Most of the Laotian are farmers and cheap factory and street labors.

If this is the Government Report then it's only a LIE...about 20% of the Population live under the Poverty Line...and abou 80% live above it...

The OPPOSITE should be TRUE...80% is under the Poverty Line and only 20% is above it...

and What is the CRITERIA FOR POVERTY LINE...?

$20-$30 Income per Month per HouseHold...?

$200-$300 Income per Year per HouseHold...?

This is hardly any STANDARD OF LIVING AT ALL...

It doesn't meet any of the International Living Standard...

SO DO NOT BELIEVE IN ANY FALSE REPORT FROM THE GOVERNMENT...
