Prone Posture – Meaning, Benefits, and Importance in Yoga and Exercise
Permalink

The prone posture is a body position in which a person lies flat on the stomach with the face facing downward. This posture is commonly used in yoga, physiotherapy, and fitness exercises to improve strength, flexibility, and body alignment. In yoga practice, the prone posture is very important because many asanas such as Cobra pose, Locust pose, and Bow pose start from this position. Practicing in the prone posture helps strengthen the back muscles, improve spinal flexibility, and support better posture in daily life. It also helps open the chest, improve breathing, and reduce stiffness caused by long hours of sitting. Because of these benefits, the prone posture is often included in beginner as well as advanced yoga routines for overall body balance and stability.
