Properties of Monel 400 Bolts and Duplex Hex Bolts
Permalink

Different engineering projects usually require parts that can endure very high temperature and corrosive media at the same time. In lots of applications related to marine environment and chemical processing Monel 400 Bolts are chosen because of their very good resistance to hydrofluoric acid and sea water. These nickel copper alloy fasteners, which are according to ASTM F468 standards, keep their strength even at the temperatures well below zero and up to 1000°F. Besides providing excellent weldability, their solid solution strengthened structure also makes them very durable in heat exchangers and offshore piping systems where salt-induced stress corrosion cracking is a major threat to the structural integrity.

On the other hand, when the requirement is changing to the need of combination of higher mechanical strength and resistance to chlorides the choice of materials will be changed accordingly too. Duplex stainless steels which combine the properties of austenitic and ferritic grades can provide twice the yield strength of the typical 300 series stainless steels. Fasteners made of Grade 2205 or S31803 are generally used in the desalination plants and petrochemical refineries. For the structural assemblies of heavy duty that require high torque and fatigue resistance,  Duplex Hex Bolts possess an excellent strength to weight ratio. These fasteners come in a wide range of metric and imperial sizes and provide increased pitting resistance. The use of such special alloys results in ensuring the reliability over a long period in aggressive chloride environments which reduces the times for maintenance and avoids the failures that can be very dangerous in the case of high pressure flange connections and underwater marine hardware installations.
