How about Pi Mai Lao (Lao New Year) in Luang Prabang in April? If you are planning to go there, you need to book a room far in advance.

Bung Fai Phaya Nak in Vientiane on the exact day of the end of Buddhist lent in October? I have not seen this myself and would really like to witness it with my own eyes.

Lao New Year as we called it.. "Boun Pee Mai" usually falls on 2nd week of April and it varies from year to year.  But, it is good to be there few days before the event kicks off.  If you plan to be in Luangprabang for the lao new year, I highly suggested that you book a guesthouse way ahead of time.  The town have so much rooms for the guests and everything will be sell out that week.  I've seen so many people ending up sleeping at the temples.  Luangprabang is the place to be for Lao New Year.

Boun Bung Fai usually in 2nd or 3rd weeks of May.  It varies from town to town.

The festivals that take place after the buddhist lent are Wat Chanh boat race and Boun ThatLuang.

Hope that helps smile.gif...  kun yark dai poo sao ngarm ngarm la tid tor num bro khonthakek der!!

you should also show pictures of the deforestation...i just got back from 40 days in laos..there are miles and miles of clear cut forest from v.vieng  all the way to l.p....from the highest look out point on the way to L.P. there is not one tree left.   (no the only clear cut areas i saw)...Laos people your countries resources are being sold to china and Vietnam...there will be nothing left for you!.....  eco-tourism is the way.....not attracting millionaire tourists with big hotels. with huge teak elephants on the front steps    you need these trees alive......i hope it is not too late!! i absolutely love Laos and its people.....(i traveled all the way from Attapeu to L.m.t ....this was my second trip )

just buy local products...get out of the tourist centers and spend money in smaller villages...you dont need to give....you need to support the local economy...
