School students are getting a helping hand from local musicians who have teamed up to make a hip new album to raise funds for schools.
Speaking at a press conference in Vientiane yesterday, the Director of Indee Records, Anoulack Puthammavongsa, said the project had taken “no time at all” to set up and was aimed at helping schools in Vientiane and other provinces.
“We only spent three weeks producing this cool little album for the project, and we decided to call it Honghien Phiseth Pheua Theukkhon , or “a special classroom for everybody',” he said.
With help from tigo and Indee Records, the CD is now ready for schools to sell, with one copy costing 10,000 to 12,000 kip, bringing potential profits of 10 million kip to each school participating.
“We have targeted schools that really need some extra stuff,” Anoulack explained, “but any school who wants to be involved can get in touch with us.”
So far, three organisations have become involved, and the word is spreading fast.
There are six great tracks on the album sung by modish Lao groups Aluna, LOG, Over Dance, Samm and the Cells. Each band performs one song on the album, as well as one special song they've made together as an ensemble piece.
The album has a good message and helpful proverbs from the five bands, to motivate young people to do their very best in life and school.
Athisack, the lead singer in the Cells, said he saw the album's concept as building confidence and solidarity among the students.
“People these days need to keep a perspective on the important things in life, and we all need to remember what is really valuable for ourselves,” he said.
“I think when we help to educate students about how to live well, they will start to think about to think about it more, and this will help them to become more genuine people in the future.”
Athisack said he spent one night composing his song, and took a day to record it.
“We wanted to make this a quick and effective project, so it was finished in no time and without too much hassle. I think it will be really positive for the schools and I'm happy to be a part of it,” he said.
