Laos' Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh acknowledged widespread corruption within the government. He made the comment on June 18th in a speech to the opening sesson of the National Assembly.

Laos' Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh acknowledged widespread corruption within the government. He made the comment on June 18th in a speech to the opening sesson of the National Assembly. The prime minister said that although the economic growth has achieved its targeted goal, many challenges remain that require tough correcting actions by the government, such as social and budget management. Mr. Bouasone said weak natural resources management is also another problem that has resulted in huge losses of income for the government. Although the prime minister did not give any specific figure, Transparency International estimates corruption in Laos accounts for 20-25% of loss revenue for Laos. Talking about corrupton.   When I visited Laos recently, I have met a few Lao officials or government workers, they were all driving a brand new car which they bought by paying cash with US dollars of course  (there is no credit in Laos), living in a beautiful house.  For us living abroad, paying a car and the house by cash is almost impossible.   

I was wondering.  What is Lao government wages per month?  Can anyone tell me?

It tells you right there that they got that money illegally from somewhere. As you can see around VT, their sons and daughters were driving very expensive truck or car...
The prime minister, that's all he can do?  =acknowledge only is not gonna do any good. There need to be a law that the high ranking officials (all the way from the top) to report their asset and income and declare to the public.

But, forget about that...this will never ever happen in Laos.

Has anyone ever heard of even ONE (1) case of corruption being brought to court
in laos ?  Sooo many laws, so many plans, so grand a vision but at the end of the day those are just empty promises - from too many daydreamers.
People are sick of these politicians.
