Laos officially adopt Thai word "Gig, ກິກ " !!

Thai word ກິກ or Gig, is now officially used in lao daily life, music industry and TV program !

When ask my friend what is the real meaning of the word Gig, I got the following definition. Gig is phrase to describe something "more than friend, but not girlfriend/boyfriend. They can have sex together just for fun ".

The word Gig is now can be heard in Lao song "Gig Noi Chai" and in many Lao conversations. Last week at "Phou Ying Yak Bork" "Lady talk" by Lao TV channel, and Music Boom by Lao Star Channel, I also heard the MCs used this word.

Have you ever used this word?
Should Laos adopt this word officially ? confused

Anything new is interesting to know or by CURIOSITY want to know. But Don't let it become a REGRETTABLE thing to know, when you are not sure is good for you as individual or your COUNTRY as a whole. I hope in the future Lao men don't have to wonder is this child mine or someone 'else. A kind of my wife only sleeps with me or with other as well. LAO wants U TURN, becomes that free and that far.confused

I live in Australia more than 30 years now, but when comes to pictures or photos in the main papers or normal magazins, I have not seen many photos published with women or girls have their tounge out,  a sort of licking, if you wanted to see those pictures you have to bue SEX magazins. Even magazins to guide you to take good, and normal life photos, tell you to avoid those sort of Posing, SEX Suggestion Positions, all cross out in those Guide Photos for normal people. BY explanation from the person who posted this topic, also sounds very confusing, Gig=not boyfriend or girlfriend, but more than a friend, and can have sex for fun. Does not make sense, in the West when people just getting know each other in a Night Club or somewhere and go home for sex just one night, NO NEED TO KNOW EVEN THE NAMES, is called ONE NIGHT STAND. Sex and Go after that no link....there you are so this GIG word is a CONFUSING word, and if the people just COPY and REPEAT is sound they have PROBLEMS, or they do not know what they are talking. FORGET ABOUT THIS WORD, if LAO is a Proud Nation.

I never heard this word before.  American people use the word GIG, for example:  I have a gig tonight means "I have to play in the band tonight or I have to sing tonight" (something about music).

Yeah you are right, gik is used everywhere in Laos because Lao people get it from Thai media. It is not the only word. The problem is that it is hard to show how Lao and Thai are different languages. They are actually just two varieties of the same language. So it is natural that words are swappped. I don't think it means that the world will end. hehe. And when I see girls with their tongues out I don't think that means the world will end either. Lighten up old people. The world is changing.
