Hong Kong top Asian living standards, Laos at the bottom most !!!

Manila, July 31: Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore households enjoy the highest living standards in the Asia-pacific while those in emerging powerhouses China and India remain poor, according to an Asian Development Bank (ADB) survey Tuesday.

The poll measured the "actual final consumption of households" of 23 Asian economies to determine their well-being and living standards. The final measure includes items purchased as well as those supplied by governments, such as education and health care.

The Chinese territory of Hong Kong was top with 125,303 Hong Kong dollars (16,019 USD) per capita, followed by Taiwan, Singapore, Brunei and Macau.

China and India account for 64 per cent of the total Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the 23 economies included in the survey.

But in per capita terms, a person living in China spends an average of only 1,470 dollars per year, with India on 1,202 dollars.

The five poorest economies were Nepal, Bangladesh, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam.

Something South East Asean must think about it. Surprising Myanmar is not in the list of poorest countries. China and India remain poor but let have a look at the POPULATION of those 2 countries...Billion. To have enough food and clothes for the whole habitants is already GOOD.

Maybe Myanmar is not on the list because they did not give permission for the ADB to conduct the survey?

I see, but in this world we live in, there are poor people in each country...no exception even in the US, France or England ... Laos is poor but I never heard people dying hungry, the photo shows poor lao children who are not wearing nice clothes , but in my mind, I`m confident about their future...like most of us, we or rather I was not very different from them when I was small boy...who know ? perhaps many of these poor children may become great painter, engineer, doctor, musician like many guys of my generation. I `m confident that one nice day we shall overcome the poverty and live in a much better condition.

I absolutely agree with above mentioned statement about the future life of these children. Their parents are probably poor, but the children look strong, healthy and happy. So, I have no doubt about their future. What I really want to add to this saying is that although our country is the poorest country, most of our people have their own lands, houses and enjoy easygoing life which most people in Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan ... don't have. This is why I am proud of my country. But having said that I don't mean that I want our country to be poor like this forever. I really hope that one day our country is going to get out from the poorest status as our government plan by year 2020.
