For me, I think it's not appropriate to dress like that because the Ecotourism is suppose to be promoting Lao culture, tradition, custom to foreign, and what make Laos a unique from other countries. They should dress in Lao traditional clothes. Like alexandra, she did a great job showing off Lao culture by wearing Lao traditional clothes.
What has the way APACTs dress got to do with ecotourism??????? Ecotourism is about the environment. Eco-tourism refers to hiking, camping, doing 'environmentally friendly activities'. This does not necessarily have anything to do with traditional culture althought if living in so-called 'traditional' ways is better for the environment then it might. But that is not the point.
Watch these videos of Alexandra's performance. She better promote than APACT. I don't understand why Lao Government choose APACT to perform for Lao Ecotourism Forum 2007. Alexandra did well for this event.
If I was a young fan watching the performance it would be very entertaining. But it has nothing to do with eco-tourism. My thought is that who ever organized this want it to me fun and gather lot of crowd. I think they might have misjudged on what type of crowd they will be getting. Most of those farangs (if there are any at the show) will think it is so-so, some can't understand Lao that good. I would have not booked them for this performance. It is a wrong venue for them.
I would show something traditional. Have local tribal people dress up in their traditional clothes. Have them do their traditional dance, playing musical instruments, maybe a musical peformance with some traditional life style in the background like have people planting rice or harvesting. They might have a budget for this but, that is what I think they should do.
