Lao workers to export again soon

(KPL) The Lao workers will be soon exported to Thailand again after a new regulation for Lao workers management has been adjusted completely, said a senior of Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare.

The export of Lao workers has been ceased since earlier this year by the Government for the adjustment of the regulation of exported Lao workers, especially Lao worker issue and expensive fee.

“This new regulation is anticipated to proclaim officially for public use soon,” added Mr. Bounkham Sihalath, Head of Employment Promotion Service.

Mr. Bounkham revealed that since 2006 more than 6,500 Lao workers have been exported to Thailand, Malaysia and Japan.

While some number of Lao workers have been sent back home due to lack artisan and skills and expensive fee for labour companies, counting for 4 million kip for two years per head. At present there are nine companies are running their business in the country, he continued.

This was a main cause that the Laos has ceased to send Lao workers to Thailand for a while since earlier this year in order to tackle the problem that mentioned above.

Mr. Bounkham also admitted that Lao worker’s artisan and skills were low therefore it was necessary to improve their skills through training course on industry and laws.

The labour fee was worth of 4 million kip has been adjusted to decrease for 5 per cent.

Up to date, the Lao PDR has ceased to export Lao worker to neighbouring countries for seven months. The new regulation of Lao worker management is under the consideration and approval of the Minister of Labour and Social Welfare.
