Wow good to hear from Xieng Khuoang's citizen, so in this case electricity brought joy and fun for people who live there.

Indispensable to=that can not be dispensable with
*Indispensable=absolutely essential, like Food and Water are indispensable to life.

My father's village in Champassak, Ban Nongte (Nongthae) some now have electricity and electric pumps.

His village is on the West side of the Mekong. We went this year to Laos and the last time my father went was in 2001. Between a span of 6 years, he was shocked at the development of Laos.

Last time he was there, there were no lights in his home. There was no electric pump.

He was also shocked to see the ITTEC building, the Patuxai park, and other places such as Vang Vieng.

Laos' is truely developing.

yeah! i was very surprised first time i went to laos when i saw satelliteantena in the middle of the country, in some very poor looking villages.

that's funny

but i would prefer lao people to use satellite to whatch interesting and educational LAO TV programs (have to create them???????) rather than thai TV.... thai TV that influence their mind and little by little make lao people behave and think like thai, and maybe one day forget their culture :(

But for that, lao TV have to improve itself and become more interesting, and various :P ... huge work

Hello sabaidee all from ACT Australia

I believe Lao TV programs can improve, the best way Lao government or authority is the Broadcast field, is to have lot of programs similar to the one of Channel Disovery, because these programs provide many knowledges in many fields from Sciences to Nature....it must a Must Have Programs on Lao TV, so people do not have to watch tv from neighbouring country.

Put it this way Lao has to produce more document by lao people....with Digital Video Camera now I think it not too difficult or beyond lao people ability to do it. Just put resources and time to do it.

I think our people are still poor, although there are lots of mineral resources in our country. People lack of money; mostly people have no even bank account. Given current status of our people, if they live in other countries, they definitely will not survive. That is a truth. Fortunately, our country still can feed our people as they can go for fishing in the rivers, hunting in forest freely. For time being they can grow any fruits, vegetables by themselves in their own lands. No need to buy anything, but imagine in 10 or 20 years later, this condition may not be found anymore. That's why to be proud that we are not poor, I think it's not appropreate. What we should be proud, I think, is we are proud of what try to be rich. We work hard for our future, for future of our children.

Sabaidee
Things have good and bad side, the same rich countries and poor one, in developing countries, because of the system of ruling every single person is controlled by Social Security number, and Bank account, without these you are not in the system, or you live outside the main stream of that country, that' s why they have Department of Social Security, on the other hand poor countries, particularly the people of those poor countries or let say LAO, do not have a social security number or bank account but they could manage the day by day in as previous person describe, grow your own vegetables and find other means to survive , in the mean time in rich countries you could not do that., whether you have a job or you are unemployed and controlled by the Department of Social Security. So at the moment Lao government could encourage lao people to open a bank account so the people get to know with the way of life which First World countries or developing countries do have, so people get used to the idea ' that Keeping money in the bank is safer than keeping it at home'. Of course LAO still has plenty of things to do for improving people's life....so gradually people enjoy a better life in the future, that's no doubt is one of the main goal which Lao government always thinks about it.
