Laos’ development of skilled labor is still slow and sub-standard, not meeting requirements by overseas employers. During the past two years, only approximately 6,000 Lao workers have been officially certified and sent to work legally in Thailand, well below the 52,000 required under a bilateral agreement. And out of the 6,000, over 1,000 have been sent back to Laos because of sub-standard skills.
As a result, the Lao government has suspended its implementation of the Lao-Thai agreement on employment and labor quality cooperation indefinitely, while it tries to improve its development of skilled labor. That will be a most difficult task, says a Lao labor official, because the government lacks adequate ways and means to do it.

Does this tell us why many multinational companies over look laos as far as planting factories there an opt to go to the neighboring countries instead. So what else can laos use to attract foreign investment if their labor skill does not meet standard ? Reality check please. Just a thought.

OUR COUNTRY NEED MONEY TO BUILD SCHOOL AND TECHNICAL KNOW HOW. HELP, INSTEAD OF CRITISIZE IS MORE USEFUL.
OUR PEOPLE HAVE THE SMARTS, BUT JUST NEED OPPITUNITY TO PROVE AND IT WILL TAKE TIME. IT TOOK BANGKOK 30 YEARS TO BE WHERE ITS AT, BUT IT IS STILL NOT PERFECT. ANYTHING OUTSIDE OF BANGKOK IS STILL UNDEVELOPLED.
IF EVERY LAOS CITIZEN ABROAD WOULD JUST SEND LITTLE MONEY TO THEIR RELATIVE IN LAOS AND SPEND THEIR TOURIST DOLLAR IN LAOS, IT WOULD IMPROVE THE LIVES OF LAOS PEOPLE OVERALL. WE CAN ALL START THERE
