2,000 kip is not expensive at all. Good idea but I'm afraid that
low quality of chinese bus will make Vientiane's air worsen and worsen !

it's good to have more bus in VT, especialy with a very affordable price of 2000 kip/ticket.

good remark about chinese bus quality... but one bus (even bad one) will probably polute less than 20 motrobikes.... so it will certainly be good for reducing pollution.... and noise!!!

But i hope there is no link between this new and the announcment by autorities that they want to remove tuktuk from vientiane.

Maybe with good bus service, we would need less tuktuk, but we will still need tuktuk for a long time, and tuktuk driver need to work! I hope the end of tuktuks is not part of the deal with the chinese company or this would mean that Laos is just for sale, and is being bought by chinese!

Do the Chinese people die from air polution which created by Chinese buses? Have you heard about that?
Be optimism! These buses are really new, I don't think, they will make air worsen.

One more good news is that these buses will equipted with air-conditioner.
It will be the first bus service in Lao history that we have air-conditioning bus.
NO MORE OPEN AIR BUS (OPEN WINDOW) biggrin COOL

hum... lao people will have to choose: air conditioning or less pollution..... cannot get both...because air conditioning need lot of energy so it generate lot of pollution

and the choise of the technology (low cost chinese or expensive western/japanese) won't change anything about that

Certainly not, but as i ever said before, everything new or "modern looking" is not always as good as it seems to be. Develop the country can be a good thing or a bad thing... just depend how you do it, and what solutions you promote/deploy. Do you want just to improve you life, whatever are the consequences over the environment and without caring that your children will just get a "destroyed" country (destroy by pollution)?
Or are you looking for a sustainable development, that will make YOUR life better, but also preserve the interests of the next and next generations?... sustainable developement that will for sure be more difficult to find....

During many years, in my country, we builded house that used a lot of energy to get warm in winter and cool in summer
Now, we begin to understand that this solution is clearly not sustainable, and we are looking for new ways to build houses, still comfortable (sometime little bit less, or little bit more, but not with big difference), but that need much much less energy to get warmed/cooled (because they don't need aircon or heater, they just use the sun or protect themselves from the sun, use the ground's heat...) ! That's a huge challenge. Engineer such houses si quite difficult, but it's the only solution we have to preserve our future

So, what is your model of development for your country? an obsolete technology and obsolete values, that we know unsuwtainable? or a really modern way of life?

Will you just copy what "developped countries" made in the last decades, even if now, we know it was stupid?
or will you try to copy the CURRENT way of developement of modern countries (way of development that sometimes mean go back and retrieve the reasonable way of life of the past.... on some details, of course, not for all aspects of our life)? or better : try to find your own sustaibable way of developement... better than what old western countries do, and then make your country become a new leader?

Believe me: put aircon everywhere is a big mistake...
of course, life with aircon is more comfortable, but live without pollution, energy cost, noise, sickness (because aircon can make you sick) is more comfortabe again... as long as you have some solutions to make the heat "acceptable"
Put aircon where it's really necessary, and use it just as few as you can, is ok
But put it everywhere and turn it always on to get 20°C is stupid!

It's a good thing to have more bus in VT.... this si good development.... but i'm not sure having aircon in bus is a good reason to be happy!
