Producer hopes full-length movie will inspire viewers

Actors rehearse a scene for the film at the company's office in Vientiane .

SPV Animation Company is preparing a full-length feature film on the negative implications of anti-social tendencies, and hopes to attract a large television audience.

“The film is now half finished and could be ready for screening next month. We've been out filming in different parts of Vientiane and in some of the provinces,” the company's Director, Mr Sengphet Vongphrachanh said Monday at his office in Dongnasok-tai village in Sikhottabong district, Vientiane .

The film will portray various social issues, such as child abuse, drug taking, and schooling and family problems that are causing problems in peoples' lives.

The movie follows government directives and has been approved by the Ministry of Information and Culture. It will not only convey the stressful problems that modern society is facing, but will have a funny side so that people of all ages can enjoy it, he said.

Mr Sengphet has trained in the production of TV programmes overseas and has worked for non-government organisations in social development for many years. During the course of his work, he witnessed a wide range of social problems that inspired him to make this movie.

He said he had seen recording studios produce short movies featuring various forms of entertainment, but had not seen a full-length movie screened on Lao TV. He felt it would be good for local viewers to see something different.

“I believe the content of this movie will teach everyone how to avoid these problems and how to deal with them,” he said.

“Another objective of the film is to convince people that local TV can be interesting and entertaining. These days most people watch channels from other countries as they offer a wide range of programming.”

“If people feel their local TV station doesn't provide them with the information they need, they will become influenced by what they see on other channels,” he said. “If locals don't watch their own TV programmes, how can they ever improve? I think that if more viewers tuned in regularly, it would encourage our TV producers to keep up with international programming standards.

“Our first movie is called Past Suffering Love . We expect it to be aired before the end of the year, and are confident that all viewers will be delighted with the result,” Mr Sengphet said.
