Vietnamese investors apply for 14 new mining projects in Laos
(KPL) Vietnamese investors have applied for permission to investment in 14 new mining projects
in Laos, which are now under the government’s consideration. Meanwhile a Vietnamese company announced yesterday to open an office of Vietnamese National Coal-Mineral Industries Group in Vientiane. During an official opening ceremony of Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Group (VCIG) in Vientiane, Mr Doan Van Kien, Chairman of the Board of Management’s VCIG and his delegate was asking Mr Bosaikham Vongdara, Minister of Energy and Mining about mining investment in Laos.
As they have applied for permission from the Lao government for 14 new mining projects across the country, but they still do not know the Lao government’s decision on their applications, which will undergo a careful consideration of the Lao government.
Careful consideration will ensure smooth operation of investors while maintaining mutual benefits of the national community of Laos and foreign investors .
According to an interview to KPL News yesterday by one Vietnamese businessman, VCIG has made an investment of US$ 3 million for its business operation in mining. However this company has just opened its office in Vientiane and one of its 14 new mining projects has recently been approved by the Lao government. The approved project is an iron mining project in Xiengkhouang province.

RE: Vietnamese investors apply for 14 new mining projects, Lao government said "please wait"
too easy... i hope lao government will be very very carefull about economic and environmental considerations before accepting such project.
A "bad" mining activity can be absoloutly dramatic for environment, rejecting some very dangerous procucts in the ground and water. Lao goverment should NEVER accept such project On the economic point of view, both parts should benefit from the project: the investors, because they in invest lot of mone in the mine, but also laos government because the ressrouces belong to Laos.
There is no mutual respect or anything. Vietnam and whoever going to SUCK Laos dry. No more tree, no more minerals, no more land (because it is result of all the DAM and the erosion of the soil).
WAKE UP LAO PEOPLE. I know you guys in Laos need money but OMG can't you see you guys are destroying yourself this way????
