Sanook is Thai word. I am thinking. Sook is a Lao word. They mean the same thing. But in Lao we say Sook Jai not just Sook by itself. Just guessing here.

No, it is not the same. Sanook means when you have fun or have good time. Sook Jai means when you are happy or happiness, no worry, no concern, no sadness.
I think the word Sanook is more like having a fun and easy life without worry of money or any material thing. A person who is Sanook does not do any hard work for living; they just enjoy life.
The word Sook is more like a person with a good health: mind, body, and spirit. When a person is living in Sook, they are happy with their lives.
Sanook = Fun
Sook = Good health
Well let see who else agree. Just my understanding of the Lao words. I could be wrong. Cheer everyone.
As Lao people who have to use Lao language everyday, I do believe that this topic is very useful for the Lao people in overall. Nowsaday, Lao words are mixed up with thai, english, french, etc... if nobody raise this problem, it will getting worse and worse, and finally we won't have our own identity.
For Sanook, Lao people use it, but have to mix with other expression. For example
No, it is not the same. Sanook means when you have fun or have good time. Sook Jai means when you are happy or happiness, no worry, no concern, no sadness.
Initially that is what I thought so too. I agree with you.
Sanook is a condition or situation you are in while Sook is more of an emotion.
