Luang Prabang to have luxury resort, sports complex




South Korea's Dawoom Company will spend more than 187 billion kip (US$ 20 million) to build sports fields and a resort in Luang Prabang province over the next two years.
 

The province is spending 5 billion kip (US$600,000) to clear more than 200 hectares in Luang Prabang district ahead of the start of construction in April.


“We have already cleared about 70 percent of the area, but are having some difficulty in getting people who live on the land to move. They want to stay here as many of them have fish ponds and teak trees on their land,” said the Vice Governor of Luang Prabang province, Dr Khampheng Saysompheng.


The proposed resort will feature a golf course, football fields, a horse-racing track and Lao style accommodation.


It is envisaged that the resort will become a major tourist attraction where overseas visitors can play golf and relax in the pleasant surroundings, he said.

The 18-hole golf course will be used for international competitions. The Lao National Sports Committee is already planning for its inclusion in the 25 th SEA Games, which take place in Laos in 2009.


Dawoom Company will concede the 200 hectare site to the district after its 50 year lease expires.

can't they leave those people have their peacefull life?
Who care such accomodations? Tourists can have all of this in their own countries... they don't need to go to Laos to play golf ou watch horse races... so why would they do it? Spend time and money for plane tickets?

If they really want to do it, ok let's them spend their money and dream of wonderfull investments... but not on the land where some lao people live... they have choose a place where no-one live and work.

There are a lot of lands in Xieng Kuang that need development. Why they don't go to those places?

so sad, i am so sad to see people who live in that area  have to relocate their home to make way for the foreigner investment to built what they call luxury resort. 

I don't want to say further for afraid someone may accuse me to discredit the Lao image.  Let it be.......Buddha bless you all

So much for World Heritage historical locations.

When you show Laos people $$$$$ all they can think is YES YES YES.

There was a lady that in charge of the development in Luang Prabang. She was making sure nothing destroy Laoness and historical of Laos and Luang Prabang. I wonder whatever happened to her.

Oh! it's a good idea to have the sport field in Luang Prabang. The business people are always able to see where they need to put their money. No wonder they are rich. 

To some extend, that would also help our government to attract more tourists from around the world. Then, Luang Prabang would be the world class city soon.

Regarding relocation of people living around there, my son also said the same thing what some people said earlier. But I hope when he grows he will change his mind, I suppose.

The problem is not the concept of relocation or compensations... we are in a moving world and people have to accept to move (their mind, their way of live, the place they live), to integrate this world.

The problem is just the conditions of the relocation. what would be the benefits for people living there?

Some people will gain huge benefit from this project. What will be the benefit for people currently living there?

If the relocations conditions proposed to them is a real benefit, can make them really improve their way of life, by giving them more land of the same quality, or same size of land but better quality, real accompaniment, etc... so, ok, let's do those investors make their project.

But i guess that if people don't accept to move, it's certainly because the compensations/relocations proposed to them would not at all be benefical for them. In such case, i think they are right to block the project and i hope they will win.
