(KPL) The Government of Myanmar has donated 200 tonnes of salt and US$8,000 in cash to the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare. The hand-over ceremony was held at the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare here on 16 January.
The aid was presented by Minister of Labour and Social Welfare of Myanmar, Mr Maung Maung Swe to Deputy-Minister of Labour and Social Welfare, Mr Laoly Faiphengyoua and officials concerned of both sides. The Government of Myanmar has provided donations to relieve victims in rural areas and also enhance the existing relationship and cooperation between the two neighbours.
they dont explain what the salt is used for - is it for iodine? Lao foods lack iodine, which stops people from getting goiter - its an infection where the glands in the neck swell up into huge big lumps. It is considered a disease of the middle ages in the West, but still around in rural Laos - i think that is what the salt is for.
