Should monks engage in these kinds of activities, e.g. smoking, surfing the internet, watching movies, listening to Hip Hop, playing sports, etc?

I don't think they should. They are monks. They are supposed to be pure and detached from any temptations. Otherwise, they are just like you and me. The only difference is what they wear and their hair style.

I agree with the above comment. I hope those young monks did not look at pornography picutres in internet, or chat with girls online. Crazy monks. weirdface

That would be very sinful. I heard from my overseas friend who visited Laos and got to know a monk in some temple in Vientiane, that they (my friend and a monk) kept in contact with each other by emailing and chatting online. confused

Can anyone just be a monk nowaday? Is there any organization/committee who is in charge of monasteries and monks, and making sure that the monks behave according to Buddhism teaching?
