The question seems to imply that there is no such thing in Lao education.I dont know if you were educated in Laos but the thing is there's been contents or substances of patriostims in many subject like history and literature.

I do agree with this person that patriotism teaching is currently contented in many subjects in our schools and universities.
But I feel that the way they teach is not so effective, if not too bad. Students seem to ignore what they hear from their teachers, which means they don't bother to apply to their daily lives.
Either the method of patiotism teaching or its content should be changed, probably.
Do you think that promoting patriotism should be part of a school's education curriculum in Laos? and how can we do that ?
Before you talk about promoting patriotism, why don't you provide us more about the understanding of the sentence: "We love our country, Laos".
Is it you mean that we should work hard for Laos regardless of the fact that we can survive or not? (I meant even we have nothing to eat.)
Is it you mean that we should protect and support our leaders no matter whether they are good for that jobs or not? (I meant that who are not good, they should be punished, and let other good people work on their posts)
If that is a case, I think, it seems to me wrong.
Why that was not effective? You just talk but you have never been the good example for them. While other people have nothing to eat, but you live like king.
Patriotism is benefical as long as it remain reasonnable. "blind patriotism" can be very dangerous and evil.
The most important , i think, is to teach "civism" : respect others, respect the law, respect environment, respect, understand and love your culture... know and understand the political processes of your countries... here are important things that have to be tought at school
But teach/force children to just "love their country", without make them deeeply understand this country, forcing them to see only the "good" and hide the "bad" in order to make them more patriots is very dangerous and unaceptable in my point of view. People are not robots that you can program as you want (or should not be like this).

There is no doubt that everyone, who has a good consciousness, would tell you that promoting patriotism for our new generation is the must. I cannot imagine what would happen to Laos in the future if they would not be educated with Lao patriotism spirit.
The big question mark is how should we do?
I don't think our current method is too bad or totally uneffective. If was so, lots Lao peope, including me would not have been the patriots. But if we can add some more effective methods than the one we use now, it would be better.
Diversity of educating people loving Laos is needed, but not only in the class through lectures or seminars which is in Laos currently mainly used.
Visiting museums also would give some help. People can see and learn history and get in touch with the our past time. Only teachers tell them, it would not be effective, but if let them have a discussion on that history they would gain and understand more.
In other countries they educate their people about the patriotism spirit through movies, drama, books, which is Laos is far behind from them. Last time when I saw the old American films made in 1950- 1960, I felt very touched with the fact. I felt like I willed to be like that without anybody's forcing me to do. I can accept it with my pleasure. Their writers are really genious. The way they persuade people not just tell:"We should love our country. If we do not love Laos who will love and so on" That is too simple.
In other countries also they do it seriously and very professinally even when they celebrate their national days. In every school the celebration of National day is taken place, this I see in Singapore. I don't know whether I can tell accurately or not. Once I passed one school when they celebrated their national day. I noticed that the way they celebrated was not like we do.
In Laos we always read the history of the event,on top of that in Laos sometime Beer Lao would need to be there. Otherwise, the event would not called a celebation.
But in their case all teachers together with students sing song which describes about their prosperity from time to time. For sure there is no beer.
Probably, they are right, our teenagers would definitely prefer to sing song rather than just listen someone who would read the history for them, which the teenagers like to call that as "borring" speach.
PS: If you have no time to read please ignore. Regards
