Why some envelopes sent to Laos were lost? Some envelopes may have important letter or photo such as funeral photos or ill person sent to relatives but never got to destination.

if you have p.o.box, it would be safe.
if not, your letter is at risk !

Yes, mail theft and mail tempering is a big problem in Laos. Some bad people in the system opened your mail to steal valuable things. They are very bad people.

My parents have problem sending letters and parcels back to Laos on many occasion. Relatives said they never got it even if they have a PO Box (mail box at the post office).

I don't know who to blame....the post office workers or my relatives. Maybe the post officer workers stole the mail or parcels. Maybe the relative got the mail or parcel but said they didn't get it so we can send another one. Who knows.

Since we are on subject of theft. How about them luggage. Mine was delay in Thailand so they keep telling me for 3 days. Good things I have extra clothes on my carryon. The oldman traveling with us never got his luggage. A lady form CA got her luggage slashed open along the seam. Maybe they were looking for valuable items. She complaint but the airline blame Thai and Thai blame Lao.

had this problem too with sending photos...

sent to PO box in Vientiane capital - gone
sent to temple in Vientiane capital - gone

amazing thing is, sent to remote village about two days' journey by dirt tracks & boat from the nearest post office - twice received, everything intact (including books), although took slightly over a month.

the full addresses were all written clearly in Lao. maybe they think there's nothing worth stealing from 'ban nok' farmers...& maybe someone in Vientiane capital's postal service has a fetish for photos of ordinary Lao people in Laos :P

on the other hand, mail i sent out from places like Phongsaly all arrived safely in USA & other countries :)

I sent letter to P.O. Box along with photos of my Mom's funeral for my relatives to see because they couldn't attend .  They were lost.  How sad it was.   I think this is inside job.  They might think there is money order in there?  This needs to be solved or something has to be improve mail system.  In America,  it's federal crime for mail theft meaning you could be fine and/or go to jail.

Anyone here knows the email address or the website of Lao post office?
I will send e-mail to the director of Lao post office and tell them to solve the problem.
