wow! great news! second important update from a few weeks (a few weeks ago, we got high resolution pictures of the friendship bridge, the train station, etc.... but not That Luang!
When you on Google Earth, when clicking on blue dot, it's the picture. Download and install in your computer, browse around, it's just like you fly over your old home. I am not as homesick as I used to be, because I can see my old place, my old house in Laos now.
Nice to see that Marsh is a great distance from Phra That Laung (I assume its where all those blue dots are in the top left).
I always assumed the Lao government made a deal with google earth to NOT show certain locations in Vientiane, leaving it blurry, to prevent any attacks on certain buildings. I mean after last summer's retarded coup attempt, hopes of seeing maps like this went down the drain.
Quite possibly the change of heart might have came from the 2009 SEA Games?
There was no agreement regarding google earth it's just that some areas more important than others. Opium growing areas of Burma high resolution for instance.
Zak I think you missed it. It came out last month there was no coup attempt or even dreams of a coupt attempt. Only overzealous American policeman trying to get an arrest. To understand Google the word "entrapment" or "sting". They never bought any arms, no one traveled to Thailand. Just a policeman trying to make them plan a coup so he could arrest them. That's why we have court system in America, sometimes policeman only make things up. Just like everywhere.
Look at all those rice feilds. What will those farmers do now? I wouln't take someones land and give it to a foreigner. That area is actually very close to Tat Luang, you can see it if you look South from the bridge past dalat Tat Luang.
