What a 10 year old thinks of Laos
Permalink

I found this webpage by a 10 year old American girl who has a Lao father and a Thai mother. Her observations are quite interesting:

  • Thailand and Laos are almost the same.
  • A king rules Laos. (I’d really like to know more about the Lao Royal Family. I’ve heard some things of them dying after being sent to re-education camps but also that some relatives escaped to live in America.)
  • Half of Thailand belongs to Laos. (I heard a lot of Lao people say this)
  • During the Laos New Year people put sand in your mouth. (Is this true? I’m glad it never happened to me. I only saw people make sand Stupas/Castles during Lao New Year)
  • Most of the people in Laos are nice and some people are mean.
  • Laos is a poor country but it is beautiful. (How very true)

AGREE OR DISAGREE?

1. Thailand and Laos are almost the same.
Anwser: Agree

2. Half of Thailand belongs to Laos. (I heard a lot of Lao people say this)
Anwser: I am totally disagree.
It should be ' an Half of Lao belonged to Thailand' Because Thailand won the war.

Anyway...I will not mention much about that

But you should know how to find out by yourself, there are many resources.

3. During the Laos New Year people put sand in your mouth

Anwser: It is wrong information.

If you want to know more about Laos, you may find about Lao New Year on internet. Or...you come to Laos on Lao New Year then you will know how wonderful time it is.

Its pretty cute.

She knows more than any Lao-American child would ever know, or care to know, or care to find out.

It seems like her references are old (A Lao King, New years celebrated for weeks).

I feel though, some of you will take offense to what this 10 year old wrote on a small web page.

Let's wait and see.

3. Half of Thailand or Half of Laos?
4. I dont think so
5. Most people in every country are like this
6. Absolutely agree

Isnt the other half of Thailand (Isan) given to the Thais by the French Laos was part of French IndoChina and Burma was occupied by the British so Thailand was supposedly a neutral state at the time. Am I right or wrong?

Yes, half of Thailand used to be part of Laos.  The Siamese won the war, when Lanxang fought among themself.  I dont like the communist.  But without them, the whole nation of Laos would be known as Thailand today.  The Royal family of Laos are thieves, liers, and cowards.  They divided this land and let other countries dominated us for so long.  That is why they shall never see Laos agian.

Believe me many of Laos living in Thailand will not forget Laos.  Some has already forgotten.  Laos has an oppitunity to take back that was lost to Siam during the Vietnam war.  When the American left Vietnam.  The Laos army with Vietnams help, were poise to go to Thailand.  But the King of Thailand begged the Chinese not to let Laos and Vietnam invade Thailand.

And we know the history of Vietnam and China.  China occupied Vietnam for hundred of years.  And when Vietnam fought back.  Vietnam lost the war badly.

Thailand, Laos, Burma, and Cambodia are small bit players in Southeast Asia.
The bullies are China and Vietnam. China will dominated over these countries agian in the next few years as it get stronger. The best Ass-kisser will come out ahead. And you know which country that is. Thailand.

I disagree. Do you not see the turmoil within Thailand right now? Once the King dies, all hell will break loose. We can all agree, even Thais, that no one likes the Crown Prince.

Pro-Taksin, Anti-Taksin, Royalists, all that will explode once he's dead.

And I didn't even mentioned the south.

China's foreign policy is simple, don't even bother to interfere. I don't see how that can dominate over any country.

I've always wondered how things get so political on this forum.

Here was posted a small article by some 10 year old American girl and it spiraled into THIS.

The only times I've seen non-political threads is when food is brought up.

Everything else, music, girls, etc. turns into a debate on politics.

Ah! Shows either two things, no unity at all, or simply care for what happens with the Lao people.

Thailand can claim what they want.  And the French can give away the land that dont belong to them.  In the hearts of every Laotian, beats LAO

Lao people are divided for many reasons.  For starter, Royal family greeds. Second was the interference by other nation. And third was politics.  But, no matter where Lao people are, we still love our land.

As for Lao uniting.  It probably wont be anytime soon.  Its very hard to unite divided  people .

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind uniting, but there is no ground for that. So, why don't we accept the reality?

No need to think about what would never happen. Hoping or waiting until the sky falls down is not behaviour of sane people, it is probably true to say. Live wherever you please.

Yes, Isan people (or Pee nong Lao) now are Thai citizen, but the land (Isan provinces) still belongs to Isan people. Now Laos and Thailand are members of ASEAN. After some years ASEAN would become like EU style. By then, Laos would have more advantages than Thailand would do in regard with Isan people.

Why? We Lao people and Isan People are the same people, meaning Lao race or Lao ethnic as someone said. We, unlike the Thai people, don't look down each other, which is the main factor for us to understand each other well , if not unite.

I myself regard Isan people as the people who are now fighting for us, for Chao Anouvong. Now, some Isan people are becoming rich. Now, Isan people live not only in Isan soil, but also in other part of Thailand, especially in Bangkok.

In addition, no one can be Prime minister, if his party doesn't represent from Isan people since number of Isan MP are more than other parts of Thailand. That's why the first country that new PM would visit is Laos.

As we know Isan people want to live friendly with Lao people. They want to trade with Lao people and vice versa we do. In this regard, Isan people, to some extent, also help to improve our Lao-Thai relationship.

That's why I said Isan people are also fighting for us.

I'm not talking about Laos and Isaan uniting.  I dont care about the Isaan people.  I'm talking about Laotiane American and Laotiane in Laos uniting.  The government of  Laos  should  recognized  Laotiane  children  who  left the  war  with their parents, to have a duel Laos and American citizen  like many  other countries.

It seems to be a good idea, but it comes to the real practice it would be far from good.

Yes, no deny that some of them would be useful for Laos, but most of them, if not 90%, would only serve USA to destroy Laos.

If they really love Laos, no one would forbide them from getting the Lao citizenship, they should follow the Lao law, meaning they have to reject American citizen.

That's what I can tell.

So I speak good about all people, all races. Yet some people like to point that out as if it was a bad thing. It really doesn't make me look bad, to say good about other people, but it only goes to show that some people cannot stand it when individuals want to speak peacefully.

If the roles were reversed, if the Lao people had dominated, none of you would be complaining. Its justifiable because the Thais conquered, had a resources, and had ties with foreign powers. Get it through your head, history happened. Instead of complaining about it, using it as some excuse, bickering about things that happened so long ago, why not acknowledge it and continue on with your life.

I've registered a screename so my thoughts and posts can be re-traced to my forum name. I suggest if anyone wants to mock me, make fun of me, or call me out, register a screen name and we can trade emails ant talk it out like men. It would be best for both of us, unless you just want to be a punk b!tch and stay anonymous.
