An Irishman in his late 20s has drowned while travelling in south-east Asia.

The Co Galway man died in a water accident in Laos on Sunday.

He had been travelling around the world and was due to return to Ireland in a few weeks' time.

The Department of Foreign Affairs says it is providing consular assistance to his family.

sad news.... my heart goes out to his family..

i wonder where the accident accur at..... i hope it is not in vung vieng.. i've seen so many young tourists tubing down the river... drinking lao beers, smoke some weeds and hot sun... that's a formula for death..

i dont want to assume tooo much here...  but let's hope it not in vung vieng..
