Lao authorities say they will not be able to allocate lands in the That Luang marshland to Chinese companies to develop into a new urban and commercial center, because only 20% of the promised 1,000 hectares have been acquired so far. Local residents and land owners refuse to relocate because the government is not able to provide them enough compensation.

companies in exchange for the new stadium and sports facilities they are building at KM 18 on Route 13 South, which will be used for the 25th SEA Games that Laos is hosting at the end of 2009.
So the government is still obligated to look for new lands for the Chinese companies. Officials have reportedly been looking at areas adjacent to the new sports facilities in Saythani district and areas next to the Tha Nalaeng train station in Dongphosy village, Hadsayfong district.
The Chinese companies expect to spend about 58 million dollars on the sports facilities they're building for Laos, and plan to invest more than $88 millions to develop the lands that they will be granting concession in return for building the sports complex. The development is expected to be completed by the end of 2010, in time for the commemoration of the 450th anniversary of the founding of the capital city of Vientiane.
So sad. Laos really needs foreign investors to improve Lao economy.
because Lao government has no competence to develop his own country and a result rely on other countries' supports. However, people never help you for free as we all know that every single person is greedy and wants sth in return, Lao gov has no choice and give a number of lands for China as a compensation.
the Lao government must keep the promise for the chinese firm, otherwise they might stop to build the stadium and Laos's dream to host the seagames just not come true. I am hoping that the gov wont point my rice field for the chinese~~ my rice field is located in Muang Thakek,
I don't think laos-Gverment would be that stupid to give away their land to other people, maybe there is some thing more than you know. So all i say is wait and see.

If he is a resident or citizen of other rcountry instead of Laos PDR (eventhough he is still Lao by ethnic and DNA) he is not consider Lao by some member here. I am just guessing here. When he say Lao he meant Lao of Laos PDR not all Lao all over the world. I personally see all Lao around the world are brother/sister but some people of Laos PDR does not agree with me.

high ranking officials of the Lao PDR are suck, theire jobs are seeking money for themselve, the more bribe from investors the more opportunities for them to get the project. if only good projects which intend to pay for social but no hidden agenda for those high ranking officials, there's no way those good project will be established. so here's some trick for project proposal, calculate more 40% of the budget for authorities who have power to approve that. then the road will be smoothly no matter what that will creates numbers of problems to grass root people, who cares? right? MR. Bor>>>?
