Community unites to assist flood victims: Government and private enterprises donated money and supplies yesterday to help flood victims in Vientiane. These included: 130 million kip from the Lao Brewery Company, 110 million kip from Lane Xang Minerals Limited, 120 million kip from the First Pacific Mining Lao Company, 30 million kip from the ST Group, 20 million kip from the Agriculture Industry and Service Development Enterprise and 10 million kip from Lao Air. The contributions were received by Standing Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad at the Vientiane Administration Office. He said all donations would help to assist people who were victims of flooding in Vientiane , and to help prevent further flooding. Government organisations were working together on flood prevention measures across the country, he said. Continuous heavy rain increased the level of Mekong River until it exceeded flood danger levels in Vientiane this week, according to the Meteorology and Hydrology Department. Flooding occurred throughout Laos and damaged thousands of hectares of farmland, particularly impacting families living along the Mekong and Ngum rivers. Some people have been evacuated from their homes and need places to stay, while others have moved in with relatives. Many sectors have begun to offer donations.
