Community unites to assist flood victims:
Government and private enterprises donated money and supplies
yesterday to help flood victims in Vientiane.
These included: 130 million kip from the Lao Brewery Company, 110
million kip from Lane Xang Minerals Limited, 120 million kip from the
First Pacific Mining Lao Company, 30 million kip from the ST Group, 20
million kip from the Agriculture Industry and Service Development
Enterprise and 10 million kip from Lao Air.
The contributions were received by Standing Deputy Prime Minister
Somsavat Lengsavad at the Vientiane Administration Office.
He said all donations would help to assist people who were victims of
flooding in Vientiane , and to help prevent further flooding.
Government organisations were working together on flood prevention
measures across the country, he said.
Continuous heavy rain increased the level of Mekong River until it
exceeded flood danger levels in Vientiane this week, according to the
Meteorology and Hydrology Department.
Flooding occurred throughout Laos and damaged thousands of hectares of
farmland, particularly impacting families living along the Mekong and
Ngum rivers.
Some people have been evacuated from their homes and need places to
stay, while others have moved in with relatives.
Many sectors have begun to offer donations.
Individuals, companies, government offices, and organisations who want
to contribute to the effort should call, 030 5263451 or the same
number ending with 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 or 60 or go to any bank to donate
money to the Vientiane Flooding and Drought Prevention Committee by
depositing money into the account, which is numbered 47100.043.
