You can now seeing these yellow Taxi driving in every corners of Vientiane city. Thanks to the investment of Chinese for the Taxi service in Laos. See these videos for more information
good hey.... I think Vientiane need more taxies, say, more than one hundred as Sea Game 2009 is coming. Besides this, taxis that we own at the moment are in the very bad condition.
Due to soaring oil price, taxi must be able to use cheaper fuel such as CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) otherwise fare will be too expensive for passgenger especially local people and the service will eventually terminate like air-condiioned city bus in Vientiane.
Moreover, taxi must equip with meter to prevent cheating tourists and GPS tracking system for passenger's safety.
For sure, it's important to have good taxi service to receive SEAgames 2009
But for "usual" tourists, tuktuk is far better: more typical and funny, open air. And for both tourists and local people, tuktuk is probably much less expensive (but maybe it's time to modernise them and give them better engine to use less gas)
I hope that despite the official annoucment of the ban of tuktuks, they will still be there for many years. And better than taxi, it could be very usefull to develop bus services. Current bus are not comfortable, but the worst problem is they are totaly overcrowded. This is much more uncomfortable than the old seats or lack of aircon.
It is good news but hopefully our chinese brother give us not a second hand car. By the way may I ask ? who is gonna be a taxi driver? It is not our brother chinese? I hope not
By using my 6 senses, I do believe that Lao people will be the drivers. If not, nobody will get in the taxi, as the customers are Lao and they can not speak Chinese, lol
