I know it is quite a stupid question to ask this question cos Lao people use almost eveything from Thailand such as Thai food, Thai products, Thai TV, Radio, etc...
Supposed one day, we have some problems with thailand and can not use thai products anymore, can our people survive?
Yes as long as Chinese people leave Thailand and Laos country. We will order products from China, Vietnam, and Cambodia. What about you? Can you survive without Isan, Chineses, Japane, and Western country.

Thailand is not the only country that has products or commodities for Laos because other countries have them too. The primary reasons I believe, Laos imports more from Thailand than other countries is because of the similarity in language, culture and the proximity between the two states has historically facilitated all the trades and saved lots of money. You understand that Thailand is a democratic country and they have practiced capitalism for a long time. Under any circumstances, the need for export takes precedence over anything else, so I highly doubt that Thai government would impose all out economic embargo on Laos which would create so much resentment among business people from within. It’s not prudential or favorable practice at best among capitalistic society to lose profits over a political conflict. If you asked, who needs whom more then of course Laos needs Thailand more than they need us. I can’t deny they have well-developed infrastructure, a free-enterprise economy, and generally pro-investment policies, Thailand appears to have fully recovered from the 1997-98 Asian Financial Crisis. The country was one of East Asia's best performers from 2002-04. Boosted by strong export growth, the Thai economy grew 4.5% in 2007. Bangkok has pursued preferential trade agreements with a variety of partners in an effort to boost exports and to maintain high growth. By 2007, the tourism sector had largely recovered from the major 2004 tsunami. Following the military coup in September 2006, investment and consumer confidence stagnated due to the uncertain political climate that lasted through the December 2007 elections. Foreign investor sentiment was further tempered by a 30% reserve requirement on capital inflows instituted in December 2006, and discussion of amending Thailand's rules governing foreign-owned businesses. Economic growth in 2007 was due almost entirely to robust export performance - despite the pressure of an appreciating currency. Exports have performed at record levels, rising nearly 17% in 2006 and 12% in 2007. Export-oriented manufacturing - in particular automobile production - and farm output are driving these gains.
Now, let’s turn to Laos, its government is one of the few remaining one-party Communist states, began decentralizing control and encouraging private enterprise in (1986?). The results, starting from an extremely low base, were striking - growth averaged 6% per year in 1988-2007 except during the short-lived drop caused by the Asian financial crisis beginning in 1997 if you still remember, but despite this high growth rate, Laos remains a country with underdeveloped infrastructure, particularly in rural areas. It has no railroads, a rudimentary road system, and limited external and internal telecommunications, though the government is sponsoring major improvements in the road system with support from Japan and China. Electricity is available in urban areas and in most rural districts. Subsistence agriculture, dominated by rice, accounts for about 40% of GDP and provides 80% of total employment. The economy will continue to benefit from aid from international donors and from foreign investment in hydropower and mining. Construction will be another strong economic driver, especially as hydroelectric dam and road projects gain steam. Several policy changes since 2004 may help spur growth. In late 2004, Laos gained Normal Trade Relations status with the US, allowing Laos-based producers to benefit from lower tariffs on exports. Laos is taking steps to join the World Trade Organization in the next few years; the resulting trade policy reforms will improve the business environment. On the fiscal side, a value-added tax regime, slated to begin in 2008, should help streamline the government's inefficient tax system.

Yes! we can survive 1. people will buy more Lao products and chinese ,singaporean, Malaysian and vietnamese investors will invest in Laos and produce whatever products lao dont have 2.once the demand of product increase, Laos will import more from China and vietnam or other Asean countries
Give me a break, we can survive with just some rice and Padek. I say this from personal experience when I was a kid in the rural area of Laos. The Siamese will not survive as the people and the country as a whole because they imports more from another countries than Laos anyway. Even the sperm they have to import from the west since the Siamese are so obsessed with the whitey, fact, you see their TV programs. That's for Siam4life.
I think is the other way around. Thai cannot survise with out Lao and cambodia. Look at thai population and Laos. They don't even have enought Land for them to Live in So some of them have live under the briege. Who ever come up with this question is pretty stupid. From 1975-1990 how Lao servise dump ass.
i wish that lao would stop supporting the thai economy by watching their drams lol i know a lot of lao nok and lao nai watch thai drama series this i know we can get rid of with our own lao drama series... we need to promote our language and our own media this i know will come in time..
second hmmm thai products are a hard source to go away from because of their cheapness. lao ppl have become too acustomed to thai products which is ok to me business is business.
last thing i need to say iss thai should shut uppp about looking down on lao ppl because im pretty sure 90% of thai products are bought by lao ppl from abroad and inside laos. cmon thai products arnt known for their quality lao ppl buy them because were familiar with them. soo i think lao needs thai economy and thai econmy definatly need lao ppl to buy their stuff.

yeah it is exactly a ridiculous question I should say. Certainly, Laos can survive without using Thai products IF: the government takes this circumstance seriously and come up with solution to problems. For example, increase the number of Lao products from household to industrial types and encourage Lao population as well as release the regulation that most of the population should rely on Lao products in order to develop the country.
To me, there's nothing that we can't do if Thai or other nations can do then why Lao people can't?. We're all human-beings having similar conditions and characteristics (brain for thinking and learning, legs and arms for moving, and so on) as well as chances to learn and experience. Therefore, we have the potential to grow effectively and internationally if we try hard enough and rely on ourselves as well as learning from other smart people simultaneously.

It’s not as ludicrous as it may sound when you often visit the site and poke some insults at my Laotian people; ironically, it’s quite normal for anyone to be bitter about his or her own miserable childhood. Please don’t hold too much grudge against your own mom for prostituting herself though it’s heartbreaking, but life has always been harsh in a filthy-hooker country. Honestly, I don’t see what’s so wrong about it since prostitution is naturally adult entertainment. Only religious freaks are so against it and they are whole bunch of hypocrites talking about moral value, sinful act and all. In reality, they love pussies as much as we do. The only concern I have for you is not so much about your bitterness, but your lab result showing HIV positive eliciting my heartfelt sympathy especially it’s not your fault. I hope you have more years to live and it’s ok to take out all your angers at us; we all know your days are number, so please come back for more. I’ll always have time for you and it’s been my pleasure talking to you. Bye for now.
Yes! Laos will survive. My brother(Cambodian) has nature oil under the ocean. I am pretty sure white power will do everything to protec them. Thailand does not have it. In the future, Cambodian goverment will trade oil for NAMPA AND PADEK because Laos people know how to cook PAPAYA real good. Oh! by the way, Vietnamese are crazy about PAPAYA too. Japanese people eat sticky rice like us. They became so rich just to sell sticky rice to wealthy countries around the world. If you know Japanese restaurants, you know the value of PAPAYA.
Laos can't survive without Thai products unless she can self-produce all those necessary goods, commodities and materials for internal consumption and for export or to barter trades with other countries. Laos needs oil and other products that she can't produce.

This is a question "Can Lao people survive without using all Thai products?" There is no reason for you to insult and attack Lao peoples in general. The question above is merely a question. It is not about insulting or attacking Thailand. Your bitching is uncall for. You need to think and process your brain a lot more next time you open your mouth. Maybe your brain is dysfunctional missing a ligth bulb, or have an errors messages. Failure to understand and interpretate informations.
Yes! Open the border and start free trade with China and Vietnam. Let the people travel freely to Mainland China, Hongkong, and the rest. Let them see the Chinese civilization for the more than 2000 years. Let them learn how to produce thing, how to make thing. These day around the world people know and use Chinese product.. It is much more cheaper than product come from Thailand. If the nation still close itself and protected people from the outside world. Lao will always be enslave one day. Lao an Chinese historically have long history together but why Chinese is much more civilize ... That is because we left them so far.. We scare them too much.. And that was wrong policy...
Learn from the Chinese, they took south of Mongol, claim Tibet, took Hongkong back, and later Taiwan. Why and How can they do that... Stop lieing to your self and see the world .
We should have learn from them and improve and developed and fight against them and over come all the problems. So that we will not have to keep moving south protect our home land and history once was in Shichuan and Yunnan.. Got ...it ... Cowward..
Against it was not Thai product or Thai food. It is was made by the other Laos ethnic who now live in Thailand.. So the products are all Lao products my by Lao people but not just side the Lao territories. Want to free Lao yes..
Stop controling Media and News, give them the right information.. let them see how far the world have gone... Let them stand by themselve.
