Deleting Lan Xang’s post is not quite rational
Permalink

Deleting Lan Xang’s post is not quite rational at least not to our modern day standard.

I am totally disappointed.  I just don’t see any harm to those officials whose monetary were disclosed by the banks oversea. Yes, I believe in confidentiality to the extent, but it should be addressed with the concerned parties for releasing the information and it’s not Lan Xang fault that he had access to it. In fact, I wonder if people in Laos should have the right to know based on the freedom of information acts.idea

Well done, webmaster! Do not allow these foreign interventionists to use this forum as a tool to spread their lies and distortion of facts.

No bank in the world would allow their client's account information to be release to the public. Especially banks in Switzerland. The banks stated on the report don't even existed.

For example: Bank of Switzerland, Bank of Thailand and Bank of Australia.

Lao People's Army

Please don’t make me laugh. I understand if you feel the need to have loyalty to the government in Laos provided that you are studying oversea and living off their stipends. But don’t say something that you don’t know. You have lived in a third world for so long under the communist regime until recently the civil control was loosening up. So, it is normal for you to have the assumption that no banks would ever allow the confidential information of their clients to others.  Do you understand that under the Freedom of Information Acts, the public has the right to know and the financial institutions are subject to disclose the information to certain agency? We all know who the richest people are in the world and how much money they have. I will give you the link. There are 32 pages and the value is in Billion American Dollars.

By the way, if they are impeccable, then no need to fear about their money oversea unless they have a guilty conscience.

Well done Mr. Webmaster!

I am surprised by that fact that some people like to infringe the rule stipulated by our webmaster. How many times does he need to repeat it?

Civilized people respect rule of law, as far as I know. However, our Lao foreign people don't like to follow it. They would try to do it by all means to discredit Lao people.

Something comes to my mind, why don't they sign up for their own website so that they can do anything whatever they want.

It's hard for me to believe that they don't have money just for opening their own website.

It’s called open discussion or exchange of ideas in the modern world of internet and that’s what a forum is for. When the moderators or the administrators created the Web, they want to have as many participants as possible and yes it’s under their prerogative to delete anyone’ s posts as they want, but that does not mean they don’t respect the code of conduct.  If they think like you, they would have nobody to join their site.  I have referred this Website to quite a few people already and I am sure the mod is so pleased to know it. You understand. Don’t you?

Genius, since when does the US Freedom of Information Acts, has jurisdiction in countries such as Switzerland, Thailand and Australia??? You sure know alot, Bruce! Those banks cited on the report are nowhere in the jurisdiction of the US Government. Besides the name of the banks cited on the report by Phendin Lao newspaper don't even existed. There are 375 banks in Switzerland and none of them go by the name  Bank of Switzerland as stated on the Phendin Lao news article.

Please don't let these bad people discredit Lao people anymore!

No doubt they are surely the members of anti-Lao government movement based in USA, Candana and France.

Do you ask me since when the Freedom of Information Acts has its jurisdiction in Switzerland? This is another reason I decided to return to this Website so I can help my Laotian people with my limited knowledge whether they are at home or abroad. I will give you the link again.  You just click on it and when you are on the first page, click the drop down key, select page 3, 6 then you will see Switzerland and to learn more about a person, just click on the name.  None of your communist officials in Laos has one billion American dollars, so you won’t see their names on the list.  The information on Lan Xang’s post may not have its validity and I can see why the mod deleted it.

Well it is good of you to acknowledged the good deed of the Webmaster. While we're not Albert Einstein but we're smart enough to look into the sources to verify things for ourselves.

The USA Freedom of Information Acts has no jurisdiction outside the US and its territories. The forbes methodology of determining wealth is nothing but an educated guesses. See the quote below:

"At the top of our list is Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej, whose $35 billion estimated net worth is up sevenfold as a result of increased transparency of his Crown Property Holdings."

http://www.forbes.com/businessbillionaires/2008/08/20/worlds-richest-royals-biz-richroyals08-cz_ts_0820royalintro.html

The key word here is "estimated" net worh. The Bank is unlikely to release the financial record or bank statement of their clients to the general public.

If you going to quote someone or cite a source  you must provide the exact quote or source. Altering people's quote and putting words on people's mouth is unethical and illegal in some case.

Genius, I don't recall putting a gun on your head to correspond to my comments in this forum. You came in here by yourself and on your own free will. It's not going to hurt me in any shape or form, buddy!

Bruce, what is there for me to compromise on? I don't recall going around provoking, demeaning and slandering people. All I do is utilizing the freedom of speech to defend the Lao people's honor, dignity and the confidence that they have for their respected leaders and government.

It’s not that I don’t want to talk you, but you seem to lack the basic understanding of my point. I merely said that most financial institutions release the information of their clients to certain agency not directly to the public, but you still insisted on talking about the bank is unlikely to release information of their clients to the public. Do you really think I don’t know that? Of course, I also know it’s the best estimate we can get; besides the net worth of each individuals keep changing all the times from month to month; it depends on the generation of their revenues. We can’t get expect 100% of its accuracy. I have no problem to compromise with that. Public only cares if they have no right to know, but if they know they have the right know, they don’t give a crap much because it’s not their money. By the same token, it’s nice to have information available to us just in case we are curious.

That’s fine with me, but I am not here to attack anybody; at least, that was not my initial intention. I had left this site once already, but I decided to return when I learned that there were people who missed me. I felt that I disappointed them with my departure. It is an honor to me to share my limited knowledge with my fellow Laotians and I hope they have learned something from me and I like to learn something from them too. I will not hesitate to express my criticism when I see fit and don’t expect me to always glorify Laos Communist. I do not glorify my current president either; in fact, I can’t wait for him to leave the office because I don’t like his foreign and domestic policy. I know who I will vote for.

Bruce,

I don't care about the internal working of the United States of America. That is for the American people to decide and I fully respect the American people's right to privacy and self-determination. The American people in general are generous and respectful.

As a citizen of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, I have a civic duty to defend my Country's honor, integrity and dignity. Laos may not be the best place on earth but it is my home and a home to millions of my fellow Lao patriots.

If i was the President i will shut up people mouth's who said i and my committees have done the corruption by:
(1) make a website
(2) copy all of committees bank account book's with detail and post it
     to the website.
(3) i will let all lao people is talking and give their idea on my website,
so i can collect some informations that i don't know and try to find
    out it's  true or not.
    (a) if it's true i will put those people to the jail and report to website
    (b) if the infomation isn't true i wll come to report and tell lao people
         in website with an evidence.
(4) all the project detail will be posted in the website.
(5) the most thing that i will do , I WILL LISTEN  LAO PEOPLE TALKING all the time and find out and make it clear all of doupt from my people.
because i have not done anything wrong so i can open my property!

bytheway, lucky  enough that I am not the president so i can do some trick to earn money and make myself to be the billionaire!biggrin

Alright, thank you everyone for the great comments so far.

My intention was not to attack the Laos PDR government or it officials. I came across the information on some Lao person living in France. I thought it was interesting and want to share it with all of you. It is up to you all of you to take the information and do what you please.

There were 2 different editors. My father work with both of them. He wrote many articles and did lots of translation work for the magazine as well.
