Do they eat sticky rice like Laotians? I would assume their food is more or less identical to ours. Am I wrong? I am just curious since I’ve never been mingled with our Hmong folks. I came across this news about the planned celebrating event in the State of Wisconsin.
Thousands Celebrate The Hmong Pre-New Year Celebration This Weekend
Thousands of people are expected to attend the 18th Annual Hmong Pre-New Year Celebration at Lake Pacawa in Plover this weekend.The event started with an opening ceremony meant to bless everyone for the new year and send bad spirits away before next year. During the celebration, Hmong dress in traditional clothing, sell art, enjoy food and listen to live music.
The director of events says that about 1,500 people will attend the celebration over the weekend, and expect to raise about $15,000 to fund their cultural programming, to preserve ethnic traditions and cultures in Hmong communities.It takes over 100 volunteers and most of the year to plan this event. Kawn Thoj, a visitor at the event says it's very important to keep the Annual Pre-New Year Celebration going, "Because, the main reason I think for all these ceremonies and events like this is for families, relatives and friends from far away you find once a year come and see each other and reunite and share their stories and their life stories."
Lao Hmong love to drink Lao khao (Sticky rice whiskey) , sticky rice.... Chinese Hmong are different with Lao Hmong. it depends on where they live and what s the food that easy to find
Lao Hmong recipe.... water, salt, vegetables, and rice (staple food) eat daily basis..I know alot of hmong and have worked with them. some of them still eat rice with water or perhap pepsi..they like to boil their vegetable(green mustard) and then pour over the rice(become rice soup) New hmong eat more western food ... the middle age Hmong eat alot more meat and meat.....
I have never mingled with the Hmong in Laos or abroad. Therefore I have no experience with how they cook and eat. I saw some Hmong hunt the birds and wild animals but don't know how they eat them.
My father use to travel a lot and mingled with Hmong back in Laos pre-1975. He said they eat different than us. I think since Hmong mingled with Lao they eat more of Lao food. At Hmong festival they even make Tum Mak Houng.
