A broken promise

I came across this news quite a while back.  It’s heartbreaking to learn about sexual exploitations of children.  All the pain and suffering they had to endure countless times due to the deceit and the lie from a group of profit making industry. They are so heartless enslaving kids for their sinful gains. The lives of these children had been robbed, terrorized and completely destroyed by these apathetic ghouls.  It was because of the abject poverty and the innocent desire to better life, children were unwillingly agreed to leave their homes.  These crooks would take their times to build trust with the families and to befriend with the weak and the poor as they are deceitfully making the empty promises.

I know for the fact that our Lao people are humble by nature if not culture.  The meekness is a great virtue which they all live by it in the midst of people looking down on them.  One day, Lao people either at home or abroad and with the grace of God, will overcome this great difficulty.  Those girls, in my eyes, are my true heroes.  Besides, money is not everything and success is not always determined by the amount of money you make, but it’s also determined by your purpose in life and if you have met any.

Laotian Girls in Thai BondageSome Laotian girls are sold into prostitution or domestic bondage in Thailand while others are forced to do factory work in Laos' urban centers, the UN Children's Fund, UNICEF, said, Reuters reported.
In a new study, called "Broken Promises, Shattered Dreams," the Laotian government and UNICEF interviewed 253 trafficking victims, along with their families, in 17 provinces.
They found that 60 percent of the victims were 18 years of age or younger. But an estimate of the total number of Laotian young people subject to trafficking was not given by UNICEF.
More than one-third of those interviewed were forced into prostitution while others were held as virtual domestic slaves in Thailand or made to work in factories at home.
About a third of the global trafficking in women and children takes place in and from East Asia, according to UNICEF, which said the traffickers are often people known to the children, who believe their captors' false promises.
"They use this familiarity with the victims to build trust, making empty promises of lucrative work to persuade them to leave home," UNICEF said in a summary of the report.
Laos, the UN agency said, was "particularly susceptible to trafficking as it is one of the world's least developed countries situated at the center of a fast-developing region."
More than 50 percent of the population is 18 years old or younger, job opportunities are limited and literacy is low. The study also showed that many young girls go to Thailand and then find themselves locked up in private homes as domestic servants rather than what they had perceived as a glamorous lifestyle they saw on Thai television.
Much of the trafficking at home involves factory work in the nation's urban centers, with most of the victims having to work long hours with little if any compensation.
The Laotian government has undertaken some initiatives, such as counseling in the capital Vientiane, which it intends to expand to almost every province. Some community networks exist in 75 villages to monitor children vulnerable to trafficking hazards.

Yeah, BruceLao
this is a sad news for our people in Laos especially the poor families, What can they do for Living in the countryside? what is opportunity that the Local government has provided to them? I 've traveled and surveyed in many districts of central and southern Laos, I discovered that there are no Young people in the village expect the old man and children. ' They are working in thailand, some lost contract, some still keep sending the money to their parent" according to the local says,
for those who are lucky . they can earn a bit money and send back to their families in Laos, but what about unlucky one? they just lost contact and no news about them, some just were cheated by thai people and were forced by thai Police to rob the money.

I met some girl who returned back from thailand, they are so open and act as hooker in Laos. what s the hell with those girl, they are only 14, ?
anyway, i am hoping that everything it will be better after Laos is more open and provides more working opportunities to the young people in the remote areas!!!

Human trafficking and white slavery are valid concerns - and everybody should have a hand in stopping it in any form.

A couple years ago, I met a pretty young Lao girl at a massage parlour in Pattaya,
Cholbury. She is just one young Lao girl who sold herself at a place like that. I guess there nust be many thousands of Lao girls working at massage parlours and the whore housesin Thailand and beyond,

when i visited pattaya, i was a little shocked to see those bars with araes somewhere in the center with girls in their skimpiest best gather around, waiting for customers - even at 10 in the morning. and everywhere you turn, there are bars like this. pattaya is appaling in that sense. too bad, coz it's beaches are nice.

Hey Khonthakek,

You sound like a cool guy and you do have the potential to better your English proficiency, so I just want to be a little helpful by making some corrections for you, and I hope you compare to your original sentences. I regard you as a good friend in Samakomlao site. I will answer your question tomorrow about the possibility of other development and opportunity in Laos. I am tired today.

As conservative as India, Pakistan, Nepal and other parts of the world have always been, but due to the need to survive and the common desire to escape from poverty, prostitution can be the only hope at time either by choice or by trick. In the worst case scenario, parents also sell their kids when the need within the family can no longer be avoidable. Our Laotian kids are facing the same fate by instinctively allowing their own destinies take its course. Below are the statements from the victim of prostitution.

“No matter how hard you try, you won't even come close to understanding our grievances." Najma, a young sex worker, there are worlds within worlds, completely hidden from most of us. Bound by basic curious nature, every now and then, someone takes a peak and comes back with words or pictures, to speak about the strange hidden worlds. More often than not, this results in impressions that seem exotic, foreign, beyond. In the case of prostitution, we either tend to see it as a bad element of society or treat them as people in vulnerable situations. Exactly because of this, we fail to give them a chance to be what they are ---ordinary people. Their basic humane aspects and sensibilities are too often ignored. There are also tales that penetrate too deep into their lives and show gross images beyond the curtains---images depicting scenes from their personal or professional lives, leaving no room or respect for their privacy. Or we disguise their identities assuming we are protecting them and in the process, we take away their right to be. In our effort to protect the identities of the 'vulnerable,' we mask their eyes with black tapes, and whether intended or not, make them look like criminals. Sometimes these dark areas are actually dark, but at time we fail to open our eyes. We approach such issues with closed minds and try to fit everything we see into the pre-constructed boxes. Thus, in spite of all the efforts, the daughters of darkness remain in the dark.

A blind Badi woman conducts sex work to support her parents and siblings, with her daughter on left and her father on right carrying her son. Far Western Nepal. It is extremely difficult for Badi girl children to escape a life of prostitution. Most of the few Badi girls who enter primary school soon drop out, in part because they are treated as untouchables- and worse, as members of a “sex worker caste”- and in part because girls are encouraged by their families to direct their lives toward sex work.testingyu0.jpg

LOL, that’s a picture of Bruce Lee who used to be my idol when I was a kid.  I liked him not because how well he could fight, but his open mind made me respect him a lot.  I still recall reading his biography when he offended many of his folks by stating facts about traditional Kung Fu.  He said, “Kung Fu is too classical, only for show.  It looks nice in performance, but who would fight with you with a set pattern.”

Many Chinese people were outrageous and they said he was born yesterday; the Kung Fu had been practiced for generation, so they sent their boys to challenge him for a fight in Oakland and he beat the crap out of them.  I don’t mean to be conceited but I used to look like him when I was a teenager.
