Serious search for gas and oil in Savannakhet




(KPL) The authorities of Savannakhet province are working hard to look for oil and gas in this province.

Head of Energy and Mines Division of this province, Mr Thonkeo Phutthakayyalath said on 9 September that the survey to look for the oil began in early 2008 in two districts, Tha Pakthong and Songkhone.“We have achieved partial completion and we are concluding that there is a 70 percent possibility of the presence of gas and oil in this area”, said Mr Thonkeo.

According the survey, there might be more gas and oil in the two districts of Savannakhet province than in the bordering Lakhonpheng district, which is located in Saravan province, he added.

He also said he is planning to test drill in Lakhonepheng district in early November as he has a strong hunch that he would strike oil in this place.
Amajor test drill would cost US$6 million and this was just the cost of the equipment said Mr Thonkeo.

Gas will be cheaper in Laos and laoPDR will be happier ...more cars on the street less motorcycle ....biggrin

Lao people can't drill by ourself due to lack of specialist and engineer !!! as you know the gold & copper in Sepon, savanakhet.,the Australian shipped back to their home, Just piad the Gov a little taxes

Twentyfive years ago it was a news came out on T.V that oil had been found every where in Laos. I'm not joking.

 No surprised to that news biggrin untill today you can find oil every where at the  petrol station in Laos.

It's great. No doubt about that. Laos would not need to import oil and gas from overseas.

However, some of us may want to tell us it will effect to environment and lifestyle of Lao people. Some people have to be relocated. 

Nonetheless, by and large I think it's a good news. By the way, Lakhonepheng district is my hometown. I am an old woman farmer. I am afraid I have to be relocated as well.

I wan to laugh out loud, when I heard that lao governement could search and drill for the oil by themselve. Even thailand and Vietnam could not do so. Cambodia asked the US's Giant Chevron to drill for them.

I think the project that they mentioned is just to raise the money for their team work.

Base on current working situation, If Lao going to have oil, Big corruption will happended like in Nigeria, it will be a cure for the country.

Laos will officially be lablelled by the next American president as part of the axis of evil for human right abuse and carry on weapon of mass destruction program.  It will get invaded by its neighbors, US, Russia, the EU and just about everybody else.  Damn, I hope they find no oil.
