Wow! read this on the kpl website: http://www.kpl.net.la/francias/news/fdn3.htm
Autorities just launched the project for building a japanese SkyTrain in Vientiane!!!

According to the contract BOT (build, operation and transfer), FSG will invest 100% in the concession of this project. It provides a survey of construction instead of 6 to 12 months, a site of 4 years and the official entry into service the following year.According to estimates, 51 km of railways will be laid and 6 stations built between the Friendship Bridge Vientiane - Nong Khai and Nong Chanh market - Wattay International Airport - Thong Pong - the National University Dong Dok - The national stadium at Km18 and the National University and Dong Dok city center. Regarding technology, FSG will use the latest machines called "Technology of the 21st century" that will allow cars to move automatically airlines through the magnetic field, as levitation. According FSG, the construction cost will amount to around 300 - 400 million U.S. dollars. Once this project successful, FSG wishes to make the ambitious concession, as always BOT, a Sky Train linking the countries of Asean among themselves and with Laos shook the center. The most positive magnetic rail network is that its system complies with urban use because the wheel moving at 10 cm from the road and there is no friction, the train is perfectly silent, which is ideal sound environment issue.
exiting, isn't it? but when a such project can become real? in 20 years?
underground in Laos? I guess it would be flooded every year! and sooooo expensive!!!!
anyway, a sky train could be good for city transportation, like Vientiane, but i'm not sure it can match thenned for national transportation. The train have to be able to carry passengers but also goods (into containers)... traditional railway seems to be better for that.
But skytrain in VT, if the ticket is not too expensive, that's clearly a great great project!!!
Sky train is needed for Vientiane City, if Vientiane population is at least 1 million people. It is not suitable for business with couple hundred thousand people in small city like Vientiane.
Lol, Vientiene need sky train because of over population? lol you must be joking. Our country is just a bit smaller than vietnam, and our popluation is almost 10 less than Vietnam. Look at vietnam now, where is the sky train? why?
dam copy copy everything like united states won.t u not be shy ? thai people please come up something with your old brain .. don.t act like you have everything like america . and use your old brain
At this moment, I don't think Laos is ready for sky train project. The city of Vientaine doesnt really have the need for it. I think the Department of Transportation or Department of Public Works needs to concentrate on building express ways, sanitary sewer treatment plants, and water treatment plants. At this moment, most of Laos sanitary system is septic tank. As one can imagine, all those septic tanks leakage will contaminate the groundwater.
So, let's not get ahead of ourself here. Let's go those issues taking care of first. The sky train can come in at later time.
During the few last years, Vientiane discovered what is trafic jams... because more and more lao people can buy big cars and use it for everything : only one person driving an empty big pick-up In the center of the city, this is stupid and generade trafic jams and pollutions (and accident too, because many people "buy" their licence). And the situation worsen every year!
At rush hour, Vientiane is not peacefull any more! Not the wonderfull city i did know.
I think lao people have to learn to use public transport to go into and around the center city, this would avoid many problems. But for that, Vientiane needs good, efficient, comfortable and cheap public transport.
Today, to go from the bridge to center city by bus, you need about 45 minutes (for 20 km only) . The buses are always overcrowded. So there is a real need for a new solution. Skytrain, tramway, or anything else... but something new and more efficient. Moreover, with the new train station and the future development of the "chinese area" (that luang marsh or land near dongphosy), this problem will strongly streghten in the next years
Same for Road 13. The city is expanding a lot along this strategic road (universitu, stadium, future airport). So there is also a need for a very efficient public transport system along this road.
But i think sky train should be used only along strategic axis... 2 or 3 lines max, because it's complex and big investment. For pure center city or smaller axis, bus or tramway is probably better.
oh, come on. see you see we have some trafic jam in morning at 8 and afternoon at 5 around Patuxay, That Luang ?
My office base next to Lao Toyota Thani. so Sh*t everyday go and stuck. anyway. Hope it come true but i still consider how many percent it might work huh ? friends
ITS BETTER USE THAT MONEY FOR MAKE BIGGER ROAD SIDE
