I've seen all those series few years ago. The reporter walked around in Bangkok interviewed thai people and most of them didn't know where Laos is nor the capital city of Laos. Some of those people didn't even know that Thailand shared border with Laos.
But, when they interview the folks in Laos. All knows where Thailand is.. and majority of them do speak and read thai. It is not the same case in Thailand.
The majority of Thai people in Bankong are Chinese. Isan tried to fit in. But got kick out hard. Pure of Laotian people love both of them. Budda told us we must love each other everybody has short life to live.
