The cheating is getting worse with the increasing number of foreign tourists in Laos. Can Lao tourist police try to help protect the safety and well being  of the tourists.

I can't find whether other foreign tourists were also cheated by the hosts here. Please post their complaints here if you can find one. More Thai tourists come to visit Laos and definitely some of them will be cheated by certain Lao people.

Why some of you can read Vietnamese, French, English, Polish, German,
Japanese or Korean, but not Thai or Cambodian or Burmese? How come?

You're wrong hundreds of Lao students are now studying in Thailand, Vietnam and China, not to mention India, Japan, Korea and other countries.
It is your choice whether you like to learn how to read Thai, Vietnamese and or Chinese or not. These foreign languages are not stupid, they will benefit and at the advantageous to those who learn how to speak, read and write them. Think again if you are really smart, man. Some of these countries are helping Laos, like Vietnam, China and Thailand that give aid to Laos in building the bridges and railway to Laos. Don't call them stupid.

Yes, cheating is everywhere, not only in Laos.

Even Lao tourists can be cheated, let alone foreign tourists, especially if you want to be treated as a king in Laos.

Having read the story written by the Thai victim, I do feel sorry for him or her, but I am not surprised. Why? Because the Thai tourist relied too much on the help of strange person, even though the person had no legal responsibility to serve the tourist.

Everywhere I go even in Laos, my country, I always keep thinking that there is no free lunch on earth.

I doubt on whether the person who posted this comment knows Lao or Cambodian or Burmese languages.

By rights, one should not expect that Laoceans know Thai language, as well.

Lao people should treat foreign tourists as our guests and welcome them wholeheartedly with sincerity and smile and hospitality. Don't cheat or mistreat  them. Don't damage Laos' reputation as a friendly and peaceable country.

I know Lao language pretty well.  ຂ້ອຍເວົ້າລາວ ຂຽນລາວ ແລະອ່ານພາສາລາວໄດ້ດີ
ຢ່າສຸ່ມີຄວາມສົງໄສໃດໆ. I myself was born and raised in Luang Prabang many decades ago.

because Thai, Cambodia and Burmese are insignifant countries; I should say pathetic countries.

Do you mean "insignificant" countries, right? Anyway, you should know a few words of our neighbouring countries for your own sake. It is better to know some words of their language than not any. I myself can read write and speak Thai fluently.

Lao and Thai is not so much different. It is easier for anyone, who already read/write and speak Lao, to learn to read/write and speak Lao than say a person what does not know how to read/write Lao.

It happends same story when traveling , the guide wants to take an advantage from the tourists. this story can tell us that the tourism in Laos is not well oraganized and not well controlled by the Local authority.

I'm Isaan and I feel bad for the tourists in general who were cheated...
but I hate thai central. They're always looking down on Isaan people...I know not all of them are close minded, ignorant pricks, but thai central treat us as second class citizen!! even though we're contributing so much to this country.  Isaan people is the driving force in thailand's economy.  For the good of this country, they better get their act together and start treating us equally...because thailand is heading for a disastrous direction.  I hope all Isaan people will stand together, support one another, love one another...and work together...don't let thai central bring us down...we should not forget where our true brothers and sisters are...which is Laos.

Love Laos...who knows maybe Laos will acquired Issan back in the future.  Hopefully.

regards,
phranom guy
