There are thousand of names there, but they come up with this name: 450th Years. What about when Laos move to 500th Years? will we have another street name 500th Years ?
450th Year Road to complete as plan
(KPL) The construction of a stretch of road called 450th Year Road began in September this year and its completion would be before the commencement of the celebration of the 450th anniversary celebration of the founding of Vientiane Capital in 2010, said Mr. Soulisay Sayasane, Director General of Duangchaleune Construction Company.
He also said that so far 20 per cent of construction work has been carried out and he gave the assurance that the road construction project would be completed on schedule.
This six -lane road, with seven cm thick asphalt surface will be 20.3 km long and 33 m wide, and it will run from Dongdok to Dongphousy The sum of US$37 million was allocated for this project.
This road will be part of the ring road of the capital, specially designed and built to ease traffic density and it would prevent heavy trucks that run down from the Friendship Bridge to travel through the heart of Vientiane.
25cm subbase and 7cm... i'm not a road specialist... but this seams to be not bad at all
This road is important for Vientiane's development. It will allow to go from train station or friendship bridge to Rd n°13 without crossing the center of Vientiane.
37M US$ is not so much for such project.
The only problem with such project is that some people lose their land or a part of their land.... it seams they didn't plan any compensations for the moment for this project (i know some people who will lose a big part of their ricefields for this project and didn't receive anything for that).
I'm happy to see laos developing... i just hope this won't cause too much trouble for people living around the projects. Everyone should benefit from such projects
driver: si pai sai nor? falang: go 44444444...... driver: ok..lets go Driver: hod leo... fanlang, No.. this not 4....5..0 th years streeth,( i remember now)..this a hooker place..damn.. DRIVER: BOR MAN YAK 4 WA.sorry
Well, let me chime in since I'm a roadway designer. I do this everyday. As far as the US design standard is concern, different states may have different design standard, but most are the same. The state where I live use a roadway typical section design consists of 8 inches mineral aggregate base which it's crush stone that is a first layer. Second layer is an asphalt concrete mix grading A about 3 inches. Third is an another asphalt concete mix grading BM-2 about 2 inches. Fourth and last is 1.25 inches asphalt concrete mix grading D. There are 3 others materials that required for prime coat and material cover for each layer, also tack coat.
I've been to Laos about 5 times since 2000. I have to admit that Laos doesn't seem to have a design standard from my observation. Laos probably only use one layer, just the asphalt to cover the mud or dirt. I saw this because when I went to Vang Vieng in Septemebr 2003, the road between the cement plant and the city of Vang Vieng has asphalt covered. But on my return trip a month later, the asphalt were gone, only red clay. Maybe the construction company cheated because they want higher profit. To built road like that is just ridiculous though.

The road that you talk about is first class or class A. But in Laos they cannot afford to use the type. Mainly in Laos they can afford to use road class C in rural areas. Why don't you talk about the road in Vientiane where they use concrete road? If I were you I would have not been arrogant.
I'm an engineer, and I know my line of job you dumbo. The road where I'm talking about in Laos doesn't even match the road in the rural America. The one in Laos is Highway 13, that is like interstate in America. In rural America country side, the roads have at least 3 layers. I don't know what class the road in Vientiane is, but I have liked to see better drainage system along the roadway that for sure. Even the road and drainage system in city of Vang Vieng that was completed last year, and I was in Laos in February 2008. Some sidewalks that cover drainage ditches are broken.
What the hell made me sound arrogant? Because I talk negative about Laos? Are you a man, or a faggot? If you're so sensitive about my comment, which I feel it's general comment, not harsh or negative at all. I guess I shouldn't take any comments seriously from this website. Some people just need to grow up. I'm Lao, and I want all the best for Laos. So I'm arrogant for making this simple general comments? I went to university and study this field and someday I can contribute to Laos, and that is my hope. If you can't handle this simple type of critic, you will never go places as a person or country.

You must new to this site? But, if you are, I want to extend my welcome to you and I hope you stick around for awhile.
So?? I take it you're Civil Engineer?? I'm just taking a guess here, since this is your line of work. May I ask where you went to school for your Engineering Degree? I think Laos can use some engineers like yourself to help building roads and infrastructure. I'm not sure if those thoughts even cross your mind? It is probably hard to leave well pay job in U.S. and go work for some company in Laos.
Yes!! I totally agree with you on the drainage system. Laos do need to improve on their sanitary system, which meant more sewage and water treatment plants. But, I think eventually they will have all those things. Things are improving there but seems like a slower pace for most people.
Chiang Mai has 700 years st. so why not 450 years st. in Lao. Just like Thai use Sawasdee and then a bit later Lao don't want it's people to use Sawasdee like Thai because Lao want to be Lao not Thai so Lao use Sabaidee instead.
