If you live in Vientiane you can now access ABC Radio Australia’s newest FM service on 96 FM. Radio Australia’s CEO, Mr Hanh Tran, will officially launch the service at the residence of Australian Ambassador to Laos, Dr Michele Forster, in Vientiane today.
He said the station was happy to be able to reach listeners in Vientiane via an FM frequency. “The development of our FM network throughout the Pacific and Southeast Asia enables us to have closer interaction with our audiences, which builds on our programming,” he said.
“It is exciting to know that audiences in Vientiane will now be able to engage with our programmes via 96FM.” Breakfast programme co-presenter, Ms Adelaine Ng, will also attend today’s launch. “We’re really excited to finally be heard in Laos on an FM frequency. We’ve already had emails from listeners making us feel very welcome,” she said.
“Broadcasting in Vientiane on FM96 makes it easy to access for both native English speakers and those wanting to learn or practise their English.” Radio Australia’s FM96 service will deliver highquality programming to audiences in Vientiane and surrounding areas, enabling Lao people to connect to a diverse choice of programmes that have only been available via shortwave radio until now. The new broadcasting arrangement has been made possible by working in close partnership with Lao National Radio.
Radio Australia now has 15 FM relays that operate on a 24-hour basis throughout Asia and the Pacific. These are: Port Moresby and Lae in Papua New Guinea, Honiara in the Soloman Island, Port Vila and Santo in Vanuatu, Suva and Nadi in Fiji, Nuku’alofa in Tonga, the island of Kiribati, Rarotonga in the Cook Islands, Apia in Samoa, Phnom Penh and Siem Reap in Cambodia, Dili in Timor Leste, and now Vientiane.
It's a good news. It like to listen the Breakfast Club which is conducted by Join Phil Kafcaloudes and Adelaine Ng.
I listen online every morning in Singapore. If I am not mistaken, since about one month ago our Vientiane Capital has been heard from this programe when they report about the weather forecast.
