Anh "Joseph" Cao won a seat in 4th Congressional District.
He is the first Vietnamese-American elected to Congress.

Will there be or will we ever see any Laotian-American runs and wins a seat in US House of Representives like this gentleman ?

There's a lot of Vietnamese in the United States.  The Vietnamese population is around 1.4 million and Lao is around 250,000-300,000 only.

It doesnt matter how little Laotian population in US is, it depends on how Lao Nork perform and study...

It depends on many factors how one is elected, not just the education, the performance and the electorate. It is also a sheer luck.

Why does it have to be a competitive thing? We don't need to be competitive. Just because Thai, Cambodian, Vietnamese, Hmong make into something it doesn't mean Lao had to match it too.

Just try to be a good citizen, good worker, follow the law, be fair, take care of your family.

Hmong is small group but one of their people was selected for house represenative. This is very high position. I'm pretty sure there's some of Laos lawyer, doctor, and engineer but none of these professional are into politic. I don't know why? But I do know a little bit about  some of Lao people"Lao don't support each other especially when they mix with another race. I guarantee 100% he or she will claim I'm not a Laotian even they carry Laos last name.

You must be refering to 2 Hmongs from Minesota (Mee Moua and Cy Thao) that was elected into that State congress. Not the same as U.S Congress. Nevertherless it is still important position.

I sometime puzzle to why so many Lao or people from Lao does not acknowledge they are Lao when they become successful.

Are there many Thai, Cambodian, Burmese, Philipino in America politic?

Do you mean election, not selection. The two words here have different meaning. Election is different from selection.

Too lazy to research but the 2000 Census show 50,000 Lao in California. Not sure if that include Hmong and other Lao ethnic as well.

When the Hmong become successful, they don't want to be Lao.  When they do something bad, they call themselve Lao.

Well you have ethnic Chinese and Vietnamese that had lived in Laos for 1 or 2 generations. To me they are Lao (by citizen) although not etnic. They should acknowledge they are Lao but they don't. I know a realestate owner. He own several building in a small downtown. It was old and he bought them cheap. The city decided to renovate the downtown and bought the building from him at a real good price. He is a multi millionair now. He built a house in Thailand and planning to move there too. HIs parents was Chinese but he was born in somewhere in South of Laos. His kids were born in Laos too. The guys or his kids never tried to speak Lao to me. He act like he doesn know it. Another person is CHLOE DAO the contestant from reality TV show PROJECT RUNWAY. She is Vietnamese but born in Savannakhet Laos. She doesn't consider herself Lao either. I don't blame them because both of these people are not really Lao. But here is what piss me off. Some real LAO born in the camp in Thailand...............think they are Thai. So stupid.

Good question but maybe someday I'll sit down and do some research on this topic.  But, to answer your question from traveling to cities through out the U.S.  The most laotian cities I've been to are...  Dallas/Ft. Worth, San Diego, Fresno, Seattle, North Carolina, and Twin Cities (Minneapolis) well I still count our Hmong brothers and sisters Lao.
