Improving the quality of education has long been considered one of the most effective means of helping poor countries to develop, as it will ensure a better standard of living in the future, Minister of Education, Prof Dr Somkot Mangnomek said on Monday.
Dr Somkot said the government has put great effort into developing and improving the education sector, which has involved not only basic school education, but also university and nonformal education which are considered crucial to the country’s attempts to alleviate poverty and ensure progress.
He said the government also had a clear plan that had given priority to expansion of the education system from kindergarten to university in order to reach the goal of removing the country from the UN’s list of “least developed” nations by 2020. “This goal could be achieved if more people in Laos attend colleges or university,” he said.
