“Tuesday we will come together as one people on the same Mall where Dr. King's dream echoes still," said Obama, the president-elect, invoking the memory of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. on the national holiday in his honor. The 47-year-old former senator takes office at noon Tuesday at a time of economic crisis at home and two wars overseas. But the challenges of the moment receded into the background for many who came for a chance to witness history.
"I didn't think I would see a black president in my generation. I just had to be here," said Donald Butler, 20, a University of Washington student.
"I'm just really happy that I'm living to see this wonderful event," said 70-year-old Betty Bryant, who rode a chartered bus from Augusta, Ga. Standing in front of the icy Reflecting Pool facing the Capitol, she made plans to rise at 3 a.m. Tuesday to take her place on the Mall for the swearing-in.
Having read the titile of this, I understand that USA will have First Black President. That's all.
Yes, it seems many things have changed for just about one week in USA politic. People around the world expect from him a lot. The war era probably was over.
gosh he's only HALF black. i think he's overrated, seriously. but i guess ANYTHING is better than BUSH!
Over rated?? How so? Can you shred some light to this topic?
I think she meant he has not done anything for the public yet, but people just drooling about him. I understand that he energized the people, but only time will tell if he is a good president or not.

For crying out LOUD!!!! He only been a president for 6 days and people already lable him. It takes Bush 8 long years to F.U.C.Ked up this country and people wants instant change. Give him some time to make a change.

That's funny. You are too hard on yourself man. When he was only a senator people still drooling about him.
i am going to count the things that i believed have achieved thus far:
winning the people's trust is one. winning over bush and his minions is two. winning not by few margin but an overwhelming electoral victory, a landslide is three. winning the sympathy and support of the world is four.
reversing bush's discriminatory law against women's right to choice is five. reversing bush's discriminatory law against science and stem cell research is six. continuing to tear down the bush war machine and his bullying foreign policy is seven....
gosh he's only HALF black. i think he's overrated, seriously. but i guess ANYTHING is better than BUSH!

that is exactly what i meant. he has only been president for a week, and people are acting like he is the "messiah". seeharhed, at least you know why you support obama, you're smart. but it seems like everyone else is just jumping on the bandwagon! i bet a good percentage of the people who voted for him can't even list just one of his accomplishments. so until he actually does something AMAZING our SPECTACULAR for our country, i could care less. =)

I think she meant USA
Yeah, she was talking about the good old U.S. of A.
Maribelle, I think you should care about the things Obama about to implement. It could effect your pockets or find that job after you're done with school.
all i have to say is ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS. so until our economy and healthcare is noticeably improved, i will refrain from drooling over him just yet. =)

We the people need to help ourselves first. The government can only do so much. For a fact, the government will not find a job for you or tell you what to do. They can only help you so much. God or in this case Buddha help those who help themselves first.

likewise. people should give him some time before rewarding him with the overwhelming amount of praise. and i certainly do not expect hand me downs. a hand me down would be something that was given to me for free. i work and i pay taxes, and i expect our president to be managing our money wisely. honestly, i think everyone is just relieved that BUSH is out of the picture. =)

Well, I haven't give him any credit yet! I just think it will take some time for him to clean up BUSH mess. This is just a beginning and the worse is yet to come. So many people are jobless these days and people are loosing their homes. For example: the town I live in now had a job fair yesterday and expect about 1000 people to show up. 4000 people showed up looking for jobs. Things are tough these days.
