Laotians who wish to return to their homeland for good are eligible to apply for permanent resident status as well as to file petition to reclaim their Lao citizenship, provided they have no criminal record in Laos or abroad.
The Lao National Assembly will be the government agency in charge of considering and approving all applications, which will be done generally within three months from the date of application, according to Mr. Ting Souksan, First Secretary and Director of the Consular Section of the Lao Embassy in Bangkok, who added that applicants must explain clearly their reasons for wanting to go back and live in Laos.
