UNITED NATIONS - UN CHIEF Ban Ki-moon will pay an official visit to Laos later this week before attending a summit of the Association of South-East Asian Nations (Asean) in Thailand, his press office said on Tuesday.
Mr Ban was to be in Vientiane on Friday and Saturday for talks with government authorities, it noted.
The UN secretary general was then to attend a summit through Sunday in the Thai resort of Pattaya that will group the leaders of the 10-member Asean plus those of regional partners China, Japan, South Korea, India, Australia and New Zealand.
Asean brings together Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia.
Mr Ban was to leave Asia for Washington where he was to take part late on Monday and Tuesday in a donors conference on Haiti sponsored by the Inter-American Development Bank. -- AFP

it was a great honour for the lao Government and its' people , Lao people welcome you H.E Mr Ban kimoon. I learned the SG of UN had been visited Laos in 1959 and 1985.
