La cité des sports Amédée Prouvost a accueilli le 4 mai deux médaillés olympiques à Pékin. Une fierté pour la cité wattrelosienne organisée par le club de taekwondo de la ville.JOFFREY FRANÇOIS > Correspondante locale Lundi dernier, le club de taekwondo wattrelosien a donc bénéficié de la présence de deux médaillés laotiens aux derniers jeux olympiques de Pékin.
Cette visite était à l'initiative de Patrick Phanithavong, membre a part entière du club wattrelosien : « Nous avons tout d'abord contacté la Fédération Française de Taekwondo et Disciplines Associés, puis l'ambassade du Laos. Nous avons profité de la coupe du monde qui s'est déroulée à Lille le 4 mai pour les faire venir au club le lendemain », explique Patrick Phanithavong.
Quelques membres des cent licenciés du club ont donc eu le droit à une petite démonstration et un petit entraînement pour montrer ce qu'est le haut niveau du taekwondo. Après avoir pris la seconde place de la coupe du monde la veille, derrière la France, Phouthasone Thammvong (médaillé d'or des JO en 58kg), Sawatvilay Phimmasone (médaillé d'argent des JO en 68kg), avaient ramené dans leurs bagages leurs fameuses médailles. Leur entraîneur de la sélection laotienne Chanthavong Panyasiri était également présent. Les sportifs ont eu la gentillesse de partager cette séance d'entraînement avec les combattants wattrelosiens. Peu de temps après son inauguration, la cité des sports Amédée Prouvost a donc déjà eu le droit à la visite de grands champions et ne demande qu'à en recevoir encore grand nombre.
