this is phonkeng road near my house . traffic jam time is in the morning 8am and evening 5pm and there're some accident in front of phonkeng market thanks for photo
the gov must adjust the working time and school school work off the same as time work off, school should off at 4 pm and work off at 5 pm.. school must start at 7 pm and work start at 9 am. parent must avoid to send their children to school ?
I don't think so that Lao will be the same as Thailand in next FIVE years today. If you say will be like in Phnom Penh in Cambodia, I would be agreed with you.
I wish in my life I would see the skyscrapers which higher than 50 floors in Lao in next 5 years..or never!!!
I wish in my life I would like to see Lao have the Sky Trains or Subways like in Bangkok or Singapore

yeah, another plan, the road must be larger. but as I see the road in ventiane already enlarged it. Maybe the government think about to build the bridges haha, but it 's too early in vientiane. or provide the convient transportation such as shuttle bus. what we need the bigger bus so that risident will take less motocycle.
need better mass public transport. subways & skytrains like in Japan, Singapore & Bangkok take time & money to build. fastest & cheaper - just improve bus services! increase their frequency, capacity, & coverage. in the past 2 years, public bus services in Vientiane have actually been reduced, many routes have been cut...

I agree. Traffic in the morning and after work is bad. Isn't there a talk about limiting ownership of car or how much car can be sold in Laos? I heard some rumor like that. And they need to make the road around Hor Kham - Cultural Hall area bigger but they can't. But they can make each road one way instead of the current 2 ways. This way there will be 2 lanes going in same direction.

subway ,Laos just forget about it now, Let see the sky train how it's going for a survey and plan?

Subway and Skytrain are both expensive and not profitable.
RE; Yes This is the Vientiane in the Morning, well, well, This is what I was afraid 20-30 ago would have happend in The Capital of Vientiane, Why ? Because I saw it my own, In Bangkok,China, vietnam,Tokyo, expecially in NewYorkCity, and L.A,who to blame? DOT.no, a person who drive's a cars to the city.no definitely not, Whom,? now let's get back to the Cpital of Laos,Vientiane. In my personal opinion I pretty much blame on Politicians, Why? Becaes they the one who make the policies, they the one' who make the Laws. For instand.if you're living in the a neighbor's provinces Like; Thakhek,Savann,Pakse,or Luangnamtha, Luang phabang,Udomsay,Why do these residences in the neighbor's provinces have to come to look for the Jobs in the State Capital, very easy Answers,Becase all of these politicians made the Lawes that every things have to be in one' places, CAPITAL ,Ok. that's why all of these residents have to leave their provinces for a Jobs , If I'm a head of the Government that Runing the Country I would'nt let that happend on my watch,How would I do it? well , if the Investors come in to Laos to Invest I would spread them around the country not in one'places,Consider that resorce and Raw material that we 've had in the Country, and maybe some of the Vientiane Residents might leave their own residence for Anothers for the Jobs, Right; That's why It's had happended in Bangkok, Tokyo, China, Vietnam, so to prevent from this happend they have to start What I just said in a bove...it's not too late to do it now,
Anonymous wrote:Subway and Skytrain are both expensive and not profitable. Investment is manageable.Vientiane can adapt business model of Bangkok Mass Transit.Bangkok Metropolitan built the infrastructure, e.g. piling, track, train station, etc and private company, Bangkok Mass Transit System Public Company Limited (BTS), invested in electric trains, automation systems, e.g. train dispatching, speed control, start/stop control, ticket vending machine and manage the operation.Bangkok has both subway and Skytrain.Skytrain is lower in cost and faster to build.Commuters especially tourists enjoy sight-seeing on the Skytrain than sitting in the dark tunnel of subway. Mass transit such Skytrain returns many benefits for instances, 1. Skytrain running through CBD (Central Business District) help connect business men fast and on-time.
2. Commuters park their cars at the terminal station and take Skytrain to CBD.Park & Ride free service provided by Skytrain reduces traffic jam and fuel consumption by private cars since most cars carry only ONE PASSENGER
3. They have just extended Skytrain across Chao Phraya river to the western Bangkok.Advent of Skytrain escalates the development of properties, business center, residential area, school and entertainment complex, etc
The instances of above benefit are many folds of the investment though it’s not direct profit for Skytrain.
yes, it's sad to see Vientiane becoming as inhuman, stressfull and polluted as other capital cities in the world. Vientiane is little by little loosing it's good specificity.
When i discovered Vientiane 6 years ago, there was not any trafic jams... This capital city was just pure hapiness.... now it's clearly less pleasant and less comfortable.
The worst thing is to see that many of the cars are just BIG BIG pick-up carrying just a single person (the driver). take lot of place, use lot of gas and pollute a lot for nothing.
For a single person, a motorbike is much more appropriate, or a very small car if the weather is bad (rainning...). But many people just want to enjoy their new money and stupidly show it to other! I hope the minds can change soon, and people come back to former more reasonnable behaviour.
It's good to see the city developing, see new buildings, renews roads... but the governement should not forget to improve public transportation systèmes (bus, train, or even tuktuk service), and educate people about problems caused by too much trafic jams and inapropriate use of cars.
I think a lot of the problem is Traffic Lights a few years ago there were hardly any, and everything moved smoothly. Now they are everywhere hence jams, you can see in the photo`s nearly all RED
Before some of you here talk about Laos having skytrains or subway, lets just talk about Laos paving all the roads in Vientiane first. When I was there couple years ago, so many roads are still unpaved. Dust everywhere. Lets just talk about reality, instead of a dream.
It doesn't matter how many traffic lights/signals they will install around city, if the people doesn't follow the driving rules. Plus, not enough police out to enforce the law. For example: the helmet law - it is been instate for few years now and do you see everybody wear helmet? NO!! If you get pull over by the cops, it is just as easy to handed him 30,000 - 50,000 kips and say.... aow pai kin nam kin nai der aii.. hahahhahah
The King of Thailand tried to solve this traffice jamed for many years by put up a skytrain, or subway, or park and ride,Was he solve the problems. No not at all, In Japan the Government build the Best publice transportation ever on Earth,Can they solved this problem. a little i guess; In England, the mayor of London increased the fee for the big SUV, and big trucks for enter the Downtown Area they still got traffice jamed every days, this is not about you got the better or hightech systems like Skytrain, Subway, park and ride, or the Super-highway like the Western Country, this is about Spread the wealth around the country , and most of all to balance the populations around the Countries, What i mean by the balance populations. it's mean not too much at one' place and not too little at the others Ok,

I think you're both right and wrong.
Good public transportation infrastructure is for sure a part of the solution. If all the countries you describe haven't built what they did, the situation would be today worse again.
But for sure, build costfull train, subway... is not enough. It's also necessary to educate people to use them, adapt working hours, avoid concentrating all the development of the country in only one city (the capital city), but on the contrary develop all the country little by little... so you can avoid too strong people concentration. You can also protect a few very attractive places by forbiding all cars in small places and building free car parking lots just around (in the extreme-center city, around nampu fountain, for example, in Vientiane), etc.
The solution, even not perfect, is not unic.... Only a combination of various actions that can seriously improve the situation.

one of the reasons why businesses and shops seem to conjugated in some potential dense areas like VTE may be because the supporting infrastructure like roads, electricity, telephone lines, other services, etc. are already built.
those companies who have offices farther away have to consider the costs of not having some of the services provided for. customers find it convenient to conduct business while at the same time able to find something to eat for example.
one of the solutions maybe then is to encourage businesses to spread out farther apart. if you can envision a circle around VTE. i always like the idea of rezoning the middle or central VTE as non-business area and allot it only for a green zone or parks. therefore, you can zone the outer parameter around the city for business, traffic would then go around the city instead of being bottleneck in and out of a central dense area, yeah?
